5 out of 5 stars An absolute brilliant find!   August 18, 2008
M. Armitage (Lancashire, UK)
Firstly, these headphones really do punch a lot higher than their weight in terms of sound quality vs. money spent.
The sound quality just is astounding for something that is under 20. I've had a pair of 40 Sennheisers for about 2 years and they are not a patch on the PortaPros.
The bass response on these is warm, strong and natural, without rattling your eardrums. The midtones are lovely and strong, which is something rather missing on a lot of headphones. The high end is clear and bright as well. I will say that these do take a little getting used to, mainly because they do produce such a completely rounded sound.

At first, I was a bit skeptical. They look a little different from the normal type of headphones and usually when you buy a set of cans for under 20 they sound like a couple of bean tins connected with string, but I can honestly say that they are the most comfortable and best sounding portable headphones I have ever purchased.

Another great thing that I've discovered about these headphones is how comfortable they still are when I've got my glasses on. Usually, if I am using a pair of headphones, they push the top of my ear onto the arm of my glasses. After a while this can get pretty sore and uncomfortable.
The comfort system on the PortaPros however is brilliant for stopping this. The temple pads hold the headphones in place so that the actual earpieces are not squashed right up against your ear. Great if you've got glasses on!

Pros - cheap, sound great and really comfortable.
Cons - headband can very occasionally grab a hair or two, not sound isolating (but for me, that's not a con because I like to know what's going on around me.)

BUY THESE, NOW!

5 out of 5 stars looks are deceiving   August 16, 2008

Forget about the 80's styling,if you respect quality audio over looks then look no further, the sound that is projected from these is truly amazing, rich solid bass, crisp treble & a well balanced mid that is pronounced just enough but not to make them sound hollow, add to that the amazing comfort & you have yourself a 5 star winner, admittedly they do seem very delicate but who cares,if they break i'll just get another set because at 17.99 from amazon with free delivery, the value is unbeatable, for those of you who just can't deal with the 80's retro styling though, fear not,get a set of sennheiser px-100's which i also have & are also equally stunning, also priced at 17.99 from amazon both are the best portable phones available at the ridiculous price bar none!

4 out of 5 stars Use your head   July 16, 2008

Amazing quality at an amazing price. These give BOSE headphones I have owned some real competition! If you can live with the retro styling (which I kind of like) then these are the only headphones you'll need.

5 out of 5 stars Totally different listening experience   May 30, 2008

These headphones are the best set bar none for anything near this price. The design is retro but totally functional and comfortable, and the clarity in the sound as well as deep base just blew me away. Oh and if you were in any doubt about the build quality, mine came with a lifetime warranty!!??

2 out of 5 stars Great except for public spaces   May 28, 2008

Brilliant headphones for when no one else is around, but they have no back, no shielding at all and are as loud outside as in (for treble) so they - leak leak sound all around. My other Koss headphones have much stronger bass but that is not to everyone's taste. I would recommend newer designs by Koss instead - some sound just as good but are more practical.
