Okay, I admit it: the five star reviews persuaded me. Yes, I thought it odd that some of the reviewers referred to the author by his first name, but I went ahead anyway. What was I thinking? I was expecting tips on how to write catchy opening lines. Or maybe some little subliminal tricks like the one used on the front cover, behind that odd title (the author's fans may say that the title itself is a little persuasive trick. I would say it's just a bad title). Suffice it to say, good tips were hard to find. The author's best tip? 'Remember the reader and the result.' Fine. Obvious, but fine. Another gem - 'I don't think of a compelling opening line, I feel for one.' Fair enough, but that's not really a useful tip, is it? You don't find many cookbooks that say 'Just cook the food until you feel it's ready.' And so it goes. The author states many times that he's not telling us what to write, but how to write. But if the best advice he can offer is to feel for compelling opening lines, then he shouldn't be writing books like this. If you get the chance, read the blurb on the back of the book. For a persuasive writer, it's very poor work. Can I Change Your Mind? AKA Go On Pick Me Up is 230+ pages of pure filler. Unfortunately, I can't offer you an alternative, since this was my first dip into the world of learning persuasive writing. Don't let it be yours. Look elsewhere and save yourself 6.99, today.

This is a fantastic book, it helped me write a marketing letter and we had a really positive response on the strength of it. I would recommend it to anyone. Lindsay you are fabulous! Ellie North Yorkshire
Thrilling and Convincing August 17, 2008 Rocco Barbini (North-western Italy) 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
I'm an italian online travel agent and I bough this book, along with many others on this subject, to learn how to write my own copy (mostly) for the web. This book really changed my professional life, helping me to raise dramatically the CTR of my adwords campaigns and to write better and better proposal to my prospects. A pair of months after I read this book, after learning to apply its principles to the italian language and to the tourism business, my sales rate almost doubled. What I think is best, after reading several other books on this subject, is that "can I change your mind" ain't no step by step guide to writing copy. It doesn't promise you to make your copy better just by copying some model letters written by others. On the contrary, it gives you all you need to begin to write your own personalised pieces of persuasive writing for whatever purpose you need.
Completely persuaded April 6, 2008 K. Madra (London) 3 out of 6 found this review helpful
I almost never read books in one go but from the start this book just hooks you. There are two things which appealed - firstly the obvious one about showing you what it means to write persuasively. It does this rather less like an instruction manual or style guide but more as a philosophy - nothing complicated or revolutionary (but as the writer points out nothing ever is) but all the same inspirational. Secondly I couldn't help but like Lindsay Camp as a very witty , talented human. I did find myself asking whether I was reading the book to get some kind of value from it (ie learn to write more persuasively) or whether I was reading it because it was just enjoyable. In the end the two things merged into each other - brilliant.
Written communication just became much more understandable February 24, 2008 C. Killick (Hampshire UK) 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
I've read many books on writing and this is up there with John Simmons. If you write anything, even an e-mail to a colleague, I would suggest that you can become more effective in achieving your outcome by reading this. Quite rightly, as Lindsay points out, most of us don't give much of a thought to a piece of communication before we write it. This book will allow you to start to think clearer before writing. It won't teach you grammar and punctuation but it will hopefully allow you to understand how to engage with the person (or people) at the other end. I haven't felt this passionately about a book for quite some time so the author can obviously walk the walk too. Highly recommended.
