4 out of 5 stars Another Good One By Cathy Kelly   November 25, 2008
Mrs. L. A. Smith
With a 5 hour train journey to and from Scotland and London to fill I had to pick my reading material with care so I took along the newest paperback by Cathy Kelly. I thoroughly enjoyed this latest installment by the irish authoress and liked the way that it brought together the 3 experiences of adultery that the main characters lived through.

I particularly liked the way it linked the story of Grandmother and Grandaughter and how through flashbacks it told the similarity of their stories, taking through to a poignant ending which sees the grandmother pass away.

A cracking read - another fantastic Cathy Kelly novel and well worth the money

2 out of 5 stars It's OK but only OK...   September 23, 2008
Love Books (England)
This is the first time I've read a Cathy Kelly book, and judging by the comments of other reviewers, it's not one of her best. It's perfectly well written, but I couldn't empathise with any of the characters, and because of that I didn't really care what happened. There was nothing to keep the reader hooked, no build up of tension, and some of the descriptions of people were quite contradictory so you can't get a clear picture of what's going on in your mind's eye. It's one of those where I had to force myself to keep going. It's not bad, but not one I'd recommend.

5 out of 5 stars Lovely way to spend a wet Sunday   September 1, 2008

I was scouting around the house looking for something to fill in an atrociously wet Sunday, and remembered someone had lent me a pile of books amongst which was this one. I had not previously read any of Cathy Kelly's books, or even heard of her, but I am very glad I have made her aquaintance.

Once started I couldn't put it down, I read until I got to the end. I thoroughly enjoyed it, although the story did jump about a bit in time it was much easier to keep track of than several other books I have recently read. I liked the characters (well almost all, surely no one could like Sybil) and could so easily picture them from their description and it brought the book to life for me. It also gave an insight into the horrors the medical profession had to cope with during that war and their valient efforts to help those almost beyond help and I found it very moving in places. It was good to know the matron did have a heart. Even the stranded whale was very topicalLessons in Heartbreak

I will certainly be on the look out for more books by this writer, I found it entertaining, amusing and thought provoking, what more can you ask for light reading?

2 out of 5 stars Not worth the money   August 23, 2008

I have to say, although is overall i good attempt, its just not enough for me. I skipped a lot of pages and just went to the end because was too boring. Didn't seem realistic or funny and just made me feel sad. She got 2 stars for effort as all the Lily pages were good, but that is only 33% of the book. Good for extreme boredom, but not highly recommded.

5 out of 5 stars Cathy Kelly does it again   August 5, 2008

This book is essential reading for any female that has ever experienced the sadness of a break up. The book teaches us that not everything you take for granted is as it seems and there are unexpected twists and turns in the story. Strength, compassion and the ties of family and friends are highlighted in the book which although not intellectually challenging does give us all some food for thought. I read this book in 1 day as I lifted it and literally could not put it down. Every woman should read this book at least once in their life.
