wonderful Time-Travel August 16, 2007 Victoria Devlin (Chicago. ILL) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Dawn Thompson is proving to be an amazing author. Gothic shape shifters, water lords, vampires, straight historical and soon erotic fantasy. I think this is her only TT and wow. In Thompson's style, she takes something that is old and remarks it as her own. She skillfully moved me through time and then back, giving it that extra turn of the screw. I was never confused as some readers said. I LOVED it. Thompson is a lyrical writer that makes reading her ingenious stories all the more pleasurable. I have yet to get a bad romance from her and cannot wait for more of her book.
Awesome Story by Dawn Thompson December 20, 2006 Jacquie Rogers (Seattle, WA USA) 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
The Falcon's Bride is a love story--of a mother's sacrifice for her son, as well as the passion between Roc and Theo. Theo Barrington travels to Ireland with the intention of marrying Nigel Cosgrove. While Theo has her doubts, she knows this match will be a good one for her father's finances. Enter one old Gypsy lady who tells Theo she's the Black Falcon's bride. But the Black Falcon is a legend--half Irish lord and half Gypsy, not a real man, and dead long ago. Still, at the Winter Solstice, Theo is drawn to a 5,000-year-old passage tomb called Newgrange, where she is transported to the arms of Ros Dromcondra, the Black Falcon. And the passion begins. Talk about a delicioso hero--Ros Drumcondra fills the bill and more. Yum. Theo Barrington is strong enough as well as smart enough to be his match in both wits and passion. The Falcon's Bride is a compelling story you won't want to put down. Every offering from this talented author gets better and better. This book is definitely a keeper!
It's A Mind-Bender--And Sexy Too! August 24, 2006 K. Montgomery (Columbus, GA) 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
Put your thinking caps on fellow readers. Don't blink, don't skip around--there are so many wonderful details. Dawn Thompson is back with another winner, this time even more rich in romance, suspense and pulse-pounding action. Thompson is a glowing example of an author that only gets better with each book published, her craft aging like a fine wine. Her books are keeper shelf worthy for sure! 1811. Theodosia Barrington, or Thea as she prefers to be called, has traveled to Cashel Cosgrove in County Meath, Ireland, to meet with her betrothed and commence with their wedding. Accompanied by her brother, James, it's immediately apparent that Nigel Crosgrove and his mother, the countess, are not quite the nicest of individuals. But there are gains for both sides--the wealth of the Cosgroves will benefit Thea's family and her by Nigel's side will help stifle the horrible rumors circulating about an alleged crime on Nigel's part. When an elderly Gypsy woman insists upon entry into the castle, she tells Thea of an astounding destiny surrounding the castle's original owner--one that cannot be true. But when said owner, Ros Drumcondra, appears as a spirit to her, she cannot deny the proud Gypsy warrior's affect on her. When she unknowingly enters a portal to 1695, Thea will encounter the physical proof of her desires, the enigmatic Gypsy chief himself. Thea is in for a mind-bending, time-hopping adventure of a romance because not only will Ros use her to exact revenge on the Cosgroves, he will also enslave her very heart. A book worthy of late-night binge reading doesn't come around very often. I truly hated to put this wonderful book down and was so glad when I could return to it to pick up again. Thea is a wonderful heroine. Full of life, she knows what is in her heart. She reaches for it too with every part of her being. The fact that she is reaching for Ros Drumcondra only reinforces my liking of her. Ros embodies the strong alpha male, yet is still sensitive enough to appreciate a woman like Thea in all the right ways. His virile presence resonates throughout the story and I sympathized greatly with his plight. Thompson is an author that amazes and astounds. Her clear understanding of the time periods she writes in shines through each word written and she writes them in such a way that the reader will understand. Full of action, romance, astoundingly well-written characters, "The Falcon's Bride" excels in every way imaginable. Another solid, good time-travel romance has been a long time coming. Thank you, Ms. Thompson, for a wonderful journey. As usual, looking forward to your next!
Ms. Thompson Get Better With Every Effort!!! June 4, 2006 Kristi Ahlers (Illinois) 31 out of 32 found this review helpful
Thea Barrington has left her home in Cornwall and traveled to Ireland in order to marry Nigel Cosgrove, the second son of an Earl. A dark cloud hangs over this man but Thea is honor bound to marry him. But while she's there she is unsettled by Nigel's behavior and begins to wish things were different. On the night of her arrival a old gypsy whispers to her telling her of her fate. Thea doesn't know if she should ignore the woman or pay heed to what she says. The decision is made after Nigel tries to hurt her when from out of nowhere a Falcon comes and saves her. While Nigel is abed with his injury, Thea talks her brother James into taking her to mystical building and while she is there she finds herself transported back to 1695 and into the arms of Ros Drumcondra, a gypsy warlord who takes her breath away. Ros Drumcondra is going to make Cian Cosgrove pay for what he's taken from him. He thinks he has the upper hand when Thea is dropped into his hands. He's not counting on her stealing his heart...he's also surprised when he finds out she's from the future and if he's to survive he must listen to her. But, is his place by Thea's side in the future or must he remain in his time? Can these two find a happy ending when their enemies have different plans for them? Ms. Thompson has done it again! This is an evocative, sensually romantic read which aptly demonstrates why we read romance. Once again, Ms. Thompson has raised the bar on the standards of romance. With time-travel elements, a little gothic feel, mystical gypsy's and wonderfully dynamic characters, "The Falcon's Bride" will steal the readers heart. Ms. Thompson is an author I'll purchase simply because her name is on the cover.
a spellbinding tale of love that defies time June 4, 2006 Deborah MacGillivray (US & UK) 30 out of 32 found this review helpful
Dawn Thompson has to be one of the hottest rising stars in Historical Romance today. This is so good to hear. In a period when everyone else bemoans the genre is dead, Thompson is making them eat their words. She is a writer who doesn't speak down to readers, but challenges with stories that spellbind the imagination, the heart. Her debut book in Romance (she has two historical fiction works out, Odin's Daughter and its sequel Children of the Wind) was September's release of The Ravencliff Bride. It gave you the eerie qualities of an old-styled Gothic romance, yet she made the premise new again. In March, her second book came out, The Waterlord, a sensual tale of Norse lore that shows she is a force to be reckoned with. This third romance, The Falcon's Bride, will cement her as a talent here to stay, and set up her emergence as a superstar of historical romance with the Spring 2007 release of Blood Moon. The Falcon's Bride taps into the mysterious world of the Gypsies of Ireland. Ros Drumcondra is a warrior of old...really old...lol Thea is hardly prepared by the magic that pulls her away from her world into Drumcondra's. Travelling through time to be with him, Thea finds their love is no shelter from her world or his. There is a dark evil that stalks them through the threads of time. However Drumcondra and his falcon are prepared to battle for their lives and Thea's love. It's a complexly crafted story. You will love Isor the falcon and thrill the Drumcondra's and Thea's love that defies all. It will leave readers, wanting something more from their stories, breathless and eagerly awaiting 2007 Spring release of Blood Moon. Very Highly Recommended
