The medicine for AS chemistry blues! June 16, 2007 Darron Rose (UK) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Im hoping to go to medical school, so obviously I needed those A's. I don't think I could have found a better answer to my prayers. It has all that you need and if used properly will guarantee that you achieve the grade you want! I loved this book, It got me an A in the January exam and am hoping for the same from this summer's AS exams. Many in my class copied after they saw how useful it was in and out of lesson, and they got A's also! Unfortunatley I have a problem with misreading questions so I may have dropped a few marks, but due to this book, none were because I didnt know my stuff. Be careful! Do not use just one source.. I reccomend past papers ALOT! They work alongside this book perfectly... and also beware that there is some content in this book which is no longer on the syllabus, so just check your specification on the AQA website. But Otherwise, if you really want an A and a good ledge on chemistry, I cannot reccomend this book more, espescially if you have a poor teacher! last tip: Go through reading all words and highlight key words, phrases, defenitions, equations and conditions and I assure you that it will make it more concise when you come to read through again!
Great book, highly recommended. January 18, 2007 beta8gui (Cravensestershire) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I bought this book and the Collins (Advanced Modular Sciences) Chemistry AS for AQA 2nd Edition. The information in this book is much easier to digest than that in the Collins book. The authors of this Heinemann book are better at writing and explaining AS chemistry than those of the Collins book. I could compare the difference to a tutor that, no matter how many times he or she explains a new concept, it just doesn't sink in well, as opposed to a good tutor who can explain the same topic in a nutshell and it sticks permanently in mind 1st time. This book tells you what you need to know and the key ideas are very good for revision, provided you've already read the relevant pages. The diagrams are easy to understand and not over complicated like many in the Collins book. There are plenty of examples in this book, the explanations are easy to understand and recall for exams! My tutor told me to buy the Collins book, which is more expensive than this book. I think he is wrong because my classmates who have the Collins book seem to be struggling with many concepts and those with this book are not.
Good Book. December 7, 2005 Maximus Food 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I used this book last year and it was a big help.I bought this book at the beginning of the year, to help go over what was covered in class and to help me catch up on the lessons for which I was 'ill':-P. It looked pretty chunky so I also purchased a couple of revision chemistry books which summarised the information. In the end I gave up on the other books and used this one for revision as well! This book covers everything you need to know with great depth making it easy to understand. The modules are broken down into clear topics with questions covering the chapter at the end. The questions are well written and are just the sort that appear in exams. Overall the book was a great help and I couldn't have got my very high A without it!
This Book is good! March 9, 2004 8 out of 9 found this review helpful
If you are doing the AQA syllabus AS Level, you NEED this book. I had a lame teacher, but this book helped me get through AS! Get it now if you are doing Chemistry AS AQA. They also do an A2 book for it.
A Must Have for AS/A Level Chemistry Students June 28, 2002 11 out of 13 found this review helpful
From my point of view... "Why did I not buy this book earlier?" This text (and the A2 Student Book) are written in an accessible manner, simplifying the most dfficult of topics to an extent which makes them easy to remember and understand for those all essential exams. The transition from GCSE to AS/A Level is made easier by the fact that the book contains a brief recap of ideas met at GCSE and hence setting the necessary foundations for the new ideas to be tackled. Understanding can also be checked by the step-by-step worked examples, quick check questions and the past exam questions at the end of each topic and module. Overall this book is worth its weight in gold - whether its for self-study or aiding class work.
