Mesmerizing August 3, 1999 After eagerly awaiting this book it didn't disappoint. But....there is no way this can be the final book. There is no closure, where are Kirel and the last Leone? What has happenend to The Terafin? And the Den? And the Northern God Born? When will we get the next juicy morsel? But don't miss this installment.
Another good book in a great series July 24, 1999 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This _better_ not be the conclusion. I am 99% certain that it's not, but from somewhere I had read that this series is supposed to have only 3 books. In any case, another wonderful book from Michelle West. I have to say that _Hunter's Death_ and _Uncrowned King_ are still my favorites though.
A wonderful continuation of the story July 19, 1999 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
The Shining Court is the third book in the Sun Sword series, and it's great!!! HOWEVER, it is NOT to be read as an introduction to the series. Michelle West's story is very complex, and one needs to read the other books first in order to understand and enjoy the third. The Shining Court deals mainly with the "southern" characters from the first book - Theresa, Diora, Alesso, etc., but part of the story focuses on Jewel ATerafin as she makes her way south with only Avandar as company after a very disturbing vision. (Avandar, BTW, is one of the great surprises of the book, esp. if you haven't read West's story in the Battle MAgic anthology about how he came to serve Jewel.) The reader is also introduced to the Voyani; most of that storyline revolves around Margret, the daughter of the Voyani that Diora killed, and Yollana, the Matriarch who talks to Ashaf at the beginning of the first book. Kallandras is also present, as are the Kialli Lords and a mad human mage who was apparently Kiriel's only friend in the Shining Court. I'm not going to say any more, for fear of giving away too much of the plot, except that The Shining Court is really a book worth reading.
THE BEST YET!! July 19, 1999 I just got the book and I read it all. This book is very good. It brings out more of some of the characters and adds some you don't know and brings back some from the first book. However fans of Valedan and Kiriel sorry to say they aren't really found in this book, but you learn more about Avandar's power and Jewel's also. The hunt also plays a part in this one, but you'll have to read it to find out. This one isn't the last of the series either. I'm sure of it!
