Inside "Hotter Than Hell" is a wide range of paranormal romances; featuring shape shifters, demons, vampires, banshees and other creatures that go bump in the night.

Music Hath Charms by Tanya Huff
Minotaur in Stone by Marjorie M Liu
Demon Lover by Cheyenne McCray
Equinox by L A Banks
Ride a Dark Horse by Susan Krinard
To Die For by Keri Arthur
Curse of the Dragon's Tears by Heidi Betts
Brother's Keeper by Lilith Saintcrow
(Like a) Virgin of the Spring by Susan Sizemore and Denise Little
Life is the Teacher by Carrie Vaughan
Moonlight Becomes You by Linda Winstead Jones
Dirty Magic by Kim Harrison

Out of the twelve short stories found in this paranormal romance anthology, I only enjoyed a handful; surprising considering the likes of Marjorie M Liu, Cheyenne McCray and Susan Sizemore contributed. I normally thoroughly enjoy whatever they write plus I'm also a huge fan of paranormal romance, so what went wrong with this anthology?

For a start, some of the endings of these short stories were definitely lacking, leaving me assuming that they were short fillers in lengthier series. I especially thought this of Lilith Saintcrow's offering; her heroine Selene certainly has an unwanted history with her vampire lover (which is not fully explained) and the story ends abruptly after she discovers the body of her murdered brother. I assume I am supposed to purchase another book if I wish to follow her investigations and intended revenge against the killer.

I'm also a sucker for a HEA and that fails to happen in other stories found in this anthology. Ali is prepared to indulge in a quickie with an ex (hardly romantic) in order to save some male sirens who don't seem particularly enamoured of her (from Tanya Huff) whilst a man who deeply loves a Banshee believes they can have a life together; before she sucks out all his life force that is (from Kim Harrison).

I give a thumbs up to "Equinox" and "Demon Lover" but that's as far as my recommendation goes. The other stories not mentioned were run of the mill blahh which I neither loved nor hated. "Hotter Than Hell" is definitely not one of the better paranormal romance anthologies out there but is instead a book to perhaps plug the gap in your time waiting for a something you really want to read to be delivered.
