A disappointing collection October 10, 2007 Paul (Worcestershire) A supposedly married couple, who never spend any time alone. A couple patrolling like constables, but with the strangely high rank of Captain. A couple of cops who only carry a sword and an axe - so who needs nightsticks? There are few connections between the chapters of the original novels, or between the three novels in the trilogy. Good rousing action scenes, but that's all; no character development, no changing plot, no reason to re-read Simon Green.

In Hawk and Fisher, Simon Green has come up with a great pair of all action heroes, but doesn't seem quite to know what to do with them. Throughout the three novels here the writing never quite manages to break through the surface to create a really successful story. Characterisation always takes second place to plot, which would be OK if plot itself were less cliched. The attempts at political satire are heavy handed at best, and don't really add anything. So why give it as much as 3 stars? Well, Hawk and Fisher ARE appealing characters, and the books are a reasonable time waster - adequate, but by no means exceptional.
A brilliant read January 12, 2000 Mr Mark Brimicombe 15 out of 15 found this review helpful
A re-release of the first three books in the Hawk and Fisher series in one volume. Very good value for money.Note: the UK version is published under the name "Haven of Lost Souls"
Good Stuff August 18, 1999 I missed the first release of the Hawk@Fisher series so realy appreciate this rerelease Anything by Simon R Green is worth reading this one is also great value for money with three complete novels for the price of one.If you arent a fan of his already I think this is a great place to start. You should be warned that Simon R Green writes the most vilontly gorey battle and fight scenes but I could not find the words "his head exploded in a fountian of blood" in the whole book so it very tame by his standards. Read it you won't be disapointed.
Finally availible again July 28, 1999 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I own books #1-4, and #6 of the original series. I have looked for years to try and find #5. Now Simon R. Green has rereleased these great books and I may finally have a chance to find that missing issue. I would recommend these books to anyone. Well worth the read and I guarantee that you will love them.
