There's a new hood in Gotham July 10, 2008 T. R. Alexander (East Anglia, UK) The crime-lord Black Mask has controlled the Gotham underworld by coming out of the last gang war in the strongest position. Now the mysterious figure of the new Red Hood is muscling in on the action but his true motives remain uncertain. Batman must now deal with the Black Mask as well as this new threat that seems strangely familiar. This story is looking very interesting with some good action and some great twists to the plot including a certain blast from the past. The art is very good throughout and the story does have some short cameos from various other heroes and villains that, although they are slightly frivolous, are a nice addition. The cliff-hanger at the end of this volume of the story is also a very good one, even if it was telegraphed slightly. Overall this is a very good Batman story and I am looking forward to reading the next volume.
Who's under the hood? March 16, 2008 Sakina Alidina There's a new villain in Gotham town, a young masked murderer who only kills criminals. Little does Batman know, the killer is only too familiar. This is one of the first Batman graphic novels I have read, and I shall go and read some more! I highly recommend this, especially to those who have a brief understanding of old charectors. This book has good graphics, interesting charectors and a thrilling story-line, it totally deserves a full five stars.
Pretty enjoyable July 15, 2007 Bungle (UK) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Being very unfamiliar with the new charcters in batman comics these days('The Black Mask'?!) i was quite suprised at how much i would enjoy this. The story itself is pretty good with the introduction of the 'Red Hood' and i have found myself coming back to it again and again. The art is also very good even though it is pretty much standard comic book art. Also im not too sure how every one else guessed the ending, i was well suprised! - the first time round anyway. After re-reading it, it is pretty obvious. The only thing that makes this a 4/5 is the fact that i didnt realise it was just a bunch of comics in one book, thinking it was a seperate graphic novel, however thats pretty much my fault. Conclusion: a solid read, even if you are very unfamiliar with the new characters.
Go on, hug a hoodie April 4, 2007 Mr. A. W. Fisher (Surrey) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
An entertaining and well illustrated story. Best read after a Death in the Family as there are some nice little parallels. You see the ending coming a mile off but that doesn't mar your enjoyment. Good value too.
New Era! January 30, 2006 7 out of 8 found this review helpful
The introduction of a new criminal ! Basically, Batman comes up against a new villan, who has modelled himself on the Jokers red hood. This guy however, goes after both the villans of Gotham, and crosses path with Batman when he starts killing them. The identity of the Red Hood, is a huge shock to Batman, and raises further questions. This is a new chapter in the the Batman saga, and a brilliant story has been laid in motion. DC comics have done well recently, with the introduction of Hush as well as this new criminal, spicing up the stories even more. The story and graphics are solid, and this book is a must buy, not just beacause of the great story, but because it hails a new era in Gotham!
