Buy it! All wannabee Jedi's should have a copy! December 28, 2001 cristian.hartup@ialn.com (Cloud City) 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
In short...FABULOUS! If you can growl like a wookie (like me) then you can amuse your friends and family with wookie phrases. A few other languages are covered in there in a very humourous and informative way. An interesting section is at the end which gives you the translations for assorted scenes throughout the star wars films such as "C3P0 tells the Ewoks the story so far" and many other gems. Full of fun, frolics, insider viewpoints from ben burt and all other information inlcuding facts like the noise the battle droids make in episode 1 is in fact the noise of the servo motors inside jabba the hutts head (after ben burt climbed in through his back passage). buy it.. buy it... BUUUUYYYYYY IIIITTTT!!!!! and lighten up your universe a little!
An interesting book. September 4, 2001 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
Now the main part of the book is devoted to the language of the SW universe, this is fun, easy to read, and funny. But in my opinion the best bit was the second chapter written by Ben Burt all about his life as a sound guru for the SW films and more. This was surprisingly informative and interesting. Only four stars because it just lacked something in the way of page amount.
A hilarious star wars travel guide August 12, 2001 11 out of 11 found this review helpful
This is one great book! Although the star wars universe is actually fictional, after reading this you would be forgiven for thinking it wasn't! The book is divided up into different languages, allowing you to say just about everything from asking a wookiee how he gets his coat so shiny... to asking jabba the hutt if he serves vegetarian cusine! every possible situation is covered. At the start of each chapter there is an introduction into each language, giving you a bit of background history and also such pearls of wisdom as :"take my advice - it will do you good to get to know a Wookiee. Learn some basic Shyriiwook." Also in the book there is a part dedicated to the author, Ben Burtt and how he went about creating these languages for the films, it's amazing to think how far star wars actually goes, and that someone creates whole languages for a sense of realism. I recommend this book to any self-respecting Star wars fan, its nice to try and learn another species languages, even if the galaxy far, far away MAY not be real!
