Mr Forstchen - Please put pen to paper May 21, 2008 TAFFMANN (uk) A fantastic idea, highly recommened to those who enjoy something differant in a casual read i.e Travel or just having a lazy Sunday afternoon. For those of us who know history you can admire the way the author adapts key events --- a fledgling naval air service pre- empts the Battle of Midway. I have read and re-read all the previous Lost Regiment novels and will always keep them close. If you are new to the title then i wlll only say this - Go on try the first one, what have you got to lose.
As good as any before, maybe better!? September 5, 2001 5 out of 7 found this review helpful
I have read all the books in this series and frankly I think this was one of the best books. It still continues with the same "human gets attacked and try to survive against impossible odds"-theme but this time you don't know exactly what will happen. In the others people can move only soo fast and fight soo much, but with the current technological advancements it has progressed into more uncertain areas which in my mind makes this book more exiting. I actually look forward to the next book. I have had no problem waiting for the last couple of books since they were soo alike but now I actually check the web for clues as to when it will come out!
a subtle twist which breathes new life on the lost regiment May 2, 2001 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
As i began to read the new book in the "lost regiment" series i felt a little cheated 20 years had past since "men of war" and all my favourite characters had moved on or died .Still on the face of it many things stayed the same. The mad mixing of ancient nations with the american republican party sometimes is a little hard to believe, but in the end this is what this book is , alternate reality !. The new threat comes from the kazan a race modeled on a blend of ancient rome and fuedal japan .The repulsion i felt for the earlier Tugars and Merki ,which really made the humans fight so dramatic is somewhat watered down by the machavellian schemings of the new enemies. The book takes a while to get moving as it involves itself in introducing new characters ready for its follow on. But as in all the lost regiment series the battle scenes are absorbing .If not as good as the first three lost regiment novels ,it is still a majestic look at a quite impressive jaunt into a world very much like our own and so very much alien aswell.
