Brill!!!!! February 27, 2008 Ms. A. Mckenzie (Scotland) When I bought this book I wasn't too sure that it would be that good but I have to say it was really good. I could not put it down and now that I'm onto the 2nd one I'm even more into the storyline!!!!
I couldn't put it down. I even took it in the bath with me November 2, 2007 Ms. Kathleen E. Davies (Wales) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is an excellant book and it deals with Jacks experiance with Ba'al and how he hasn't dealt with it even though he acts brave and oblivious. Do be warned though, if you are a fan of sg-1 books with a hint of comedy, then this might not be the one for you. Jack is funny but with dark humour. If there are people out there who like jack/sam, like myself, whilst there's only subtle, almost missable moments between them, they are beautiful. Probably the best one is at the end when he's trying to help Sam but I don't want to give anything away. The strange thing, is i find Daniel funnier than Jakc in this book, which may seem out of character but due to the circumstances of the plot, it works really well and its nice to see. Jack, whilst the hero, isn't actually the hero. His team are infact his hero and it's touching to see. Lots of Teal'c in this book and quite a good bit of Hammond. Janet isn't in it much but the moments with her are quite funny. This book has Jack O'neills ultimate foes Kinsey and Ba'al. Seriously recommend. It's a great read and as i said I couldn't put it down. It came everywhere with me. To my friends houses, in the bath, in the car - Just couldn't put it down.
If you liked 'Abyss' you'll LOVE this! September 9, 2007 Sarah Huckle (UK) I have not yet read all of the Stargate novels, but of the ones i have read, this one has become my favourite. The main reason for this is because one of my favourite episodes from the TV show was 'Abyss'. Without giving too much away the novel centres heavily around this episode and is set mid season 7 - my guess as Janet is still alive and Daniel has regained all of his memories. Jack must relive the horror he faced during his imrpisonment and another team member will become a victim to the same torture that Jack was subject to. If you really take this in, the novel is very emotional in the way it deal's with Jack's inner turmoil as well as Sam, Daniel & Teal'c's desperation to keep Jack away from the brink of insanity. Once you get to the end of the novel (or novel's what with it being a two parter... don't try and read the first one on holiday without bringing book 2 with you! I made that mistake!) i think you'll agree that this novel would make an outstanding episode, especially as a tie-in with 'Abyss'!
Yup, brilliant August 6, 2007 Ingrid Anell (Malmo, Sweden) This is one of those books which really captures what, for me, stargate is all about. It's like when you watch the series and there are those moments when you really feel you know what's going on, just by looks and glances and simmering emotions, well, this one really get's inside the heads of the characters, digs a little deeper without becoming emotionally warped, there's still enough action to balance it all out. I have read this one and the one that follows (the cost of honor)and have skimmed back over them again and again. It really puts into words those little things you've wanted confirmation for in the series, and it feels extremely true to the characters, this duo are so far by far the best stargate books out there, by far. Enjoy.
Excellent December 9, 2005 nomadic_writer (Essex, England) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
This is not just good for a TV tie-in, it's a genuinely good book. The standard of writing is excellent, and the compelling storyline weaves together elements from the TV series with an interesting and gripping original plot. The characterisation is very well done, and there's a real sense of drama and consequences as events unfold: it doesn't feel like one of those static tie-in novels where there's no suspense because you just know that everything will be back the way it was by the end. All in all, it's a real page-turner, and manages to be exactly what this kind of book should be: both a story that would have worked on the TV show, and an excellent novel in its own right.Even if you normally give tie-in novels a miss, this one and its sequel are well worth your time.
