chest puffing macho nonsense April 30, 2008 SYD (uk) 0 out of 4 found this review helpful
this book was a real dissapointment - I was expecting practical and sensible advice and found myself reading overly aggresive rubbish. Very little for the average person; much more lads mag gung ho than everyday advice.
Cannot be any better April 28, 2008 Rafal Gruszczynski (Warsaw Poland) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The book tells you about what really is important in a dangeorous situation. How to get prepared mentally, how to avoid, escape and get out of the situation with as little damage as possible. No other book or course I know of has addressed these aspects in such a good way as this one. Extremely practical first of all. This is a highly recommended book for anyone. To be prepared.
A book of two halves November 8, 2007 Koga (UK) The first half of this book is outstanding. It addresses the whole issue of a Street conflict giving advice and information which not only deals with this ugly subject but is relevent in other areas of life.I was a competitive Judoka and I can honestly say I wish I had the knowledge contained in this book when I was younger. As Geoff Thompson says Adrenaline induced Fear/Panic can loose you the fight before it has kicked off.I know this only too well. My only criticism is that I personally felt the Book ran out of steam.Maybe in trying to cover such a vast area of this form of Human conflict, certain comprimises had to be made in order to present a complete package. Having said that I am sure I will refer back to this book on many occasions.I would recommend this book to every one,the information contained within could save you a lot of grief.
Dead or Alive: The Definitive Self-Protection Handbook : The Choice Is Yours - The Definitive Self-protection Handbook June 4, 2007 Keith Haines (Bristol. England) I know this sounds a strange thing to say, but I rarely get to finish reading a book, usually because Iget bored with it. But I can't say the same for this book. Once I started reading it I could not but it down. Geoff Thompson really know's his stuff and I found that everything in the book made perfect sense, even though I have done tae kwon-do for over 12 yrs, I learnt more from this book in 1 week, than I did in 12 yrs, even though the book doesn't really teach you any self defence moves. I HIGHLY recommend this book to EVERYONE interested in self-defence
Very effective and to the point! May 27, 2007 Mr. J. S. Williams This book is well worth buying! If you are interested in Self-defence (self-protection) or a keen martial artist then this book gives you the facts. From awareness to the game plan to Jeff Coopers colour codes and simple yet effective strikes. This book Covers where you stand with the law against an attacker and what the body goes through when faced with danger. As a martial artist myself I understand that no one system has the answer. Geoff has been there, done that and got the T-Shirt, and more importantly pressure tested what martial arts skills he has in a "live" situation. Geoff repeats sections that are important so they stand out to the reader and so they stick in the mind of the reader. Please remember though that if you do buy this wonderful bit of knowledge you cant read it and believe "now i can defend myself against anyone." You have to train to become good and then train harder to make it work! I would recommend this book to anyone wanting to increase their knowledge of self-protection, or people wanting to know how to defend themselves this is a good step to take! Be safe, Peace J
