Well written and funny November 9, 2007 M. J. Harris (Scotland) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I could not put this down! I recently read Pippa Funnel book and found it a struggle to finish and rather dull. But William's was just the right balance of witty stories, factual information about events he had attended and honest insights about the highs and lows of both his personal and professional life. A good read and has totally changed my prior view of him
Fascinating read! September 8, 2007 Sharon W. (Gloucester, England) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
I awaited this book eagerly and was not let down. My only fear was that it could contain what amounted to lists of horse trials WFP attended with which particular horses; in reality there is a wealth of background information, anecdotes etc which bring to life WFP, his family and other characters. The writer is altogether very honest, covering the ups and downs of his professional and personal lives. If you are thinking of buying this book, go ahead - it will meet your expectations.
This book totally changed my opinion of WFP September 7, 2007 Big Black Mama (Kent, UK) 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
This book totally revised my opinion of WFP - this guy is bright, very very funny (cf the guinea pigs and other stories) and much more humble than I thought (based on an unfortunate encounter I once witnessed between him and a BE official). Self-deprecating, hard working and honest - a great behind the scenes view of the highs and lows of eventing. WFP will be one the all time greats. Well worth waiting for - I couldn't put it down!
