a must-have for any aspiring judokaJune 27, 2001 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
While Kashiwazaki focuses on only a handful of strangles, his attention to detail and the variety of variations makes this a gold-mine of information for anyone interested in shimewaza. While nothing replaces time in the dojo, Kashiwaza's explanations can help turn a poorly applied strangle which slowly constricts an opponent into one which comes on suddenly and sharply. I only have two contentions with the book: [1] length - it could easily be expanded into a second volume. [2] sangaku-jime - the technical explanation could be improved upon, as Kashiwazaki overlooked addressing the importance of controlling the shoulder, and detailed placement of the leg behind the neck.

Although only a few shimewazas are explored in detail this book encourages you to think in more detail about how to use strangles successfully. Visit us at the World-Wide Martial Arts Venues Website! -
