5 out of 5 stars Answers all the questions   July 7, 2008

I've been training for triathlon for only a few months but I had so many questions that have built up during that time and this book answers nearly all of them. The best thing about it for me, as a relative newby to the sport, is that it sets things out in a straightforward manner and takes most of the guess work out of training for an Ironman or other triathlon distances. Also, there is a significant focus on making the most of the time available for someone with a full time job, family commitments etc, which is excellent.

Highly recommended.

A very comprehensive book for all levels of Ironman, containing 3x 30 week training programmes. I swear by it as it doubles up as my training partner. Goes right into time management and how to balance work/family life and getting the most from the schedules. I am entered into IM UK this year (my first one) and feel very happy with my progress. A must for all multisport athletes wanting to "Go Long"

5 out of 5 stars Fink does the thinking for you   March 27, 2008

My wife & I both swear by Fink - it's been the basis of our schedules for some three years or so. If you want more theory and want to tailor-make your own very precise schedules, you can go to "Going Long" but Fink has, in effect, produced more easily digestible "off the shelf" schedules - including a fall-back "Get you round" schedule.
Having read "Going Long" et al, I can see why Fink says to do what he says; but you don't need to have read or to understand the theory to follow Fink - just do as he says.
He is particulary good with the very simple arithmetic needed to avoid over-doing things, especially after missing a few days training.
I've recommended Fink to loads of people, and will continue to.

5 out of 5 stars FANTASTIC!!!   December 12, 2007

I am a soldier in the forces and have a degree in Sport Science, and concider myself to be of a high level of fitness, but this book REALLLY helped me achieve a new level of fitness. It is very easy to read, and a pleasure to do so. Even the sections that i have extensive knowledge on, and would normally skip in most books, i found myself reading, as it really is such a good read. It is also full of great hints for participating in your first triathlon, let alone an Ironman.

One of, if not the best training book i have read in a long time!!!

5 out of 5 stars Ironman in a Nutshell   July 9, 2004

A refreshing 'no nonsense' approach to Ironman training.

Don Fink cuts to the core of this huge topic. His vast experience in racing & coaching combined with his uncanny ability to keep things simple produces a mighty fine book.

His tried and tested ideas will get you IronFit without having to give your entire life over to it.
He avoids any over-kill of science & complexity, the result is an easy to understand super effective training & racing game plan.

Even the tricky subjects of swim technique & periodization are put across in an easily digestible form.

He leaves no stone unturned - everything you'll ever need to prepare for the 140.7 mile challenge of the Iron Man.
