The book of the Decade. July 23, 2008 K. T. Barber (South Wales) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Having served in the Armed Forces, including Special Forces, and being a Diver too this book brought all the camararderie flying back. I was on the Atlantic Conveyor just before it was hit by exocet and know the true value of these brave CDs. This is truly a superbly written book, it will have you roaring with laughter in places. I read while on holiday with my wife, she was not amused by my laughing out loud at times. But she will get over it. Tony is a brilliant writer, a true gent and an example of all that is good about our forces and ex-forces personnel. Thanks Tony.
My best read for a long, long time. Brilliant. July 18, 2008 Francis A. Tubb (Almoradi, Spain) This book captures the Feeling, Cameradierie, Language of the true Royal Navy. It portrayed wonderfully the true feelings of a person in the front line in Clearance Diver Branch. We are very proud of RNCD,s, second to none in the world. We ex-navy people may call you "Bubbleheads" but that is with pride and affection. I must add that this does not diminish the pride and affection for my own branch of which i am also immensely proud. We too had our moments of Fun, Fear and Rubbish in different era,s and places not just Falklands. Tony,s career after the navy is written wonderfully also giving a real world honest opinion of life. I like the reviewers above would recommend this book to anyone, it has everything. Most of all it is an honest, unpretensious account of life at the sharp end. Tony i hope you put pen to paper again.
"Diver" author Tony Groom July 15, 2008 Mr. J. W. Turnbull (Liverpool) Never have I found a more honest, technical account of a commercial divers' profession (wish I'd read it 30 yrs.ago !). We are accused of being "Gold Diggers", "Fortune Hunters","Mercenarys",Nutters;far from it..... Mates, people with determination, stamina,a will to do what's right and not to accept second best.Pushing the boundries. You have given CDs/Sat Divers/Air Divers a voice in what you've written, I have worked with some of the best individuals you would hope to meet and most of them where divers. Tony Groom's book puts into words what we'd all like to be able to say and its bloody funny-HIGHLY recommended. Tony for Prime Minister.
Worth every penny July 8, 2008 Bootneck I actually woke the other passengers on a plane up laughing out loud at parts of this book. Highly recommended
