Danny feels caught between two worlds May 12, 1999 I recommand this book to those who are interested in learning more about Immigrants. Imagine you are a newcomer in a country that you don't know much about. Well, that's what happened to Danny, he feels caught between Vietnam and the United States. He also faced hatred because of where he came from. He fits in with some of his American friends, but yet they don't understand his traditional Vietnamese home life.
a great book for the average teenager to read about racism April 11, 1999 most of the time, you just hear about racism being black and white. this book helps us realize that black and white is not the only racial discrimination! this book describes some of a vietnamese teenager's trials and problems in his every day life as well as outside of school. danny vo experiences the racism of white people, nagging of his grandmother, a sister that is too caught up in herself, and a cousin who has the heart the size of the grand canyon. this book is educational and yet very easy to read and understandable. with a surprise ending, this book can be counted as a book on my A list! *book recommended for people ages 12 (at least!) and up.
The best book I have read. April 3, 1999 I am an international college student who got assigned to read this book, and I have never been so much into a book before. I almost started crying. I highly recommend this book for those who haven't read it yet.
superb November 28, 1998 this is a terrific book. very interesting, a real page turner. i really relate to the book and Danny, and some other characters. it's very realistic and authentic which is more than I could say about other YA books about vietnamese people.
This was an excellent book. January 22, 1998 I found it hard to put this book down. It was very intresting. I loved the way the author discribed Tiffany, Frank, Croba and Hong being like roots in a plant. He couldn't pull up one with out damaging all the others.
