Charlie Cooks favourite book November 2, 2008 Mrs. M. Hill (Notts. England) Fantastic book. My four year old has had me read this book so many times she knows it word perfect. The rhyming is great. So easy to read and enjoy as an adult too. A real classic like their other books, funny and well illustrated.
Perseverance pays off... October 17, 2008 J. Bloss (Wolverton, UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Initially I was quite disappointed by this book. I think this was because I was just looking for another Gruffalo and this is quite different. The basic premise is that each page is concerned with a different book which leads on to the next one. After a few reads I have changed my mind though and feel it has a great pace and rhythm. It also has quite a lot of details on the various pages for identifying. Warning that one of the "books" does feature a headless ghost who carries her head around with her at night til she puts it back on to read her favourite book - personally I thought this was not offensive in any way and certainly not scary to any children I know, but of course there may be more sensitive children out there...as per one of the other reviews.
Brilliant July 30, 2008 Gordie (London) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
My 2 year old daughter loves all of these books - very imaginative stories - great illustrations - pages contain lots of detail she really enjoys.
Very good for older readers June 21, 2008 V. Carlin (London, England) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I think this is a lot of fun for older children reading themselves because there are lots of little in jokes and details and it's sophisticated in a way they'll get, and quite post-modern, to make them feel clever. It's quite a bit too old for my daughter, but she likes to point at the birds and things and finish the rhymes she can remember. She'll enjoy it more later.
I have the whole range of Julia's books, but this one....... May 2, 2008 Ms. N. E. Whamond 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
My 3 year old is loving these book, he adores , 'room on the broom' though he is not keen on 'gruffalo' I am! Upon reading this book to him, he seemed to be bored, i did too. It seemed not to flow as well as her others, and made it difficult to get in to. We have had this for a week now, and ay bed time, he does not want me to read it. So is a bit of a let down to be honest. Though the drawings are good as usual
