1 out of 5 stars The worst book I have read in a while..   October 14, 2008

The first books were quite derivative, which you might expect from a young author, but were still enjoyable romps. This third book (was this not intended as a trilogy?) rambles along with no plot momentum to speak of. It is also clear that the research behind the book is sloppy with very limited imagination - as witnessed by the Nasuada whose competition for leadership of the tribes is laughable.
It might be that I am too old for the book. However, I don't think I would ever have been tolerant of the continual conversations explaining the workings of this fantasy world, even as a kid. If you liked the Star Wars prequels, maybe you'd like this. I don't.

4 out of 5 stars Another Paolini Delight   October 13, 2008
Mrs. E. Webb (UK, Berkshire)
Well, what a read....I thoroughly enjoyed the book, the detail and further insight into the characters that we all know and love.
I would however, advise anybody to read Eldest again before ploughing into Brisingr - I found it useful to refresh my memory after waiting so long for book 3.

I screamed out loud when I then realised I am now going to have to wait for book 4. That was mean!

If you love Dragons, Magic and fantasy....the Inheritance Cycle is an absolute must.

3 out of 5 stars How to gild the cash cow!   October 12, 2008
Mr. Hugh M. Fowler (Scotland)
Straight off I'm an adult reviewing a children/young adult's book but that aside I have been a fan of Gemmell,Eddings,Feist,Jordan,Goodkind.... for years.Having borrowed my son's books,I eagerly awaited what I hoped to be the final installment only to have Mr Paolini release a video stating that there is no way that he could finish this in one book!Well here's the rub,I would hazard a guess that he had too much for one book but not enough for two because Brisingr is full of padding ,but in my opinion padding in the wrong places,eg the R'azac-big build up,done in a couple of pages, replacing Z'aroc-likewise,return to Ellesmera,Oromis....the list goes on.We are constantly reminded that Eragon is new to this & he still has alot to learn only to be asked to believe that he & Saphira must now take the resposibility for teaching any new riders that should appear?Without giving away the Brom shocker, well decide for yourself whether it is believable!
Disappointed best descibes my feelings once I finished this,Paolini has fallen into the Jordanesque mistake of padding stories out just to increase his & the publisher's bank balance!

Unless you're 13 or younger dont bother reading this book. I'm really disappointed in Paolini...after getting off to a great start with Eragon book 2, Eldest, slipped a bit but was still readable. Brisingr however is a total waste. The dialogue is so childish I cringed with every page. I gave up on this book halfway thru. If you're smart you'll give this one a pass. Save your money, complete rubbish...grow up Chris, maybe even get a girlfriend and try again in a few years once you've matured a bit.

1 out of 5 stars Self insertion and moral suicide   October 11, 2008

Brisingr maybe one of the worst books I have ever read. it reads like it has been written by a fan-author of the books. the main characters have been distorted by the author living out his dreams as an immortal all-powerful dragon rider - in the previous books he could get away with the idea because eragon was a normalish farmboy dropped in it, but now he is really just a "Mary-sue". and he isnt even the worst Roran in eldest could be a man at the edge fighting to save the one he loved (in a dim light anyway). now he is a "hero" in the worst sense of the word. killing -by hand - hundreds while the rest of his allies sit and watch he cant even blame a magic sword that can cut though steel. between his self insertions he spends time trying to kill the overwhelming volume of side stories and self inflicted dead ends i could swear half the book was about trying to find eragon something to eat now he gone vegetarian .

all in all yawn either wright your own books Christopher or find a different job
