5 out of 5 stars Easy read   August 23, 2008
T. Chatzakis (Greece)
I loved this book. I found it easy to read but hard to put down. The characters were easy to picture and were thoroughly enjoyable. I would definitely recommend it for teenagers, or a light read for adults.

4 out of 5 stars Twisted Glamour   August 10, 2008
Tutu and a T-Shirt (London, England)
If you love gossip and glamour and a fast read then read this book. The story of Elizabeth Holland is intriguing as she is to marry one of New York's high society men. Great book for a quick read on a holiday and to transport you back to a life when things seemed so simple yet very complicated!

5 out of 5 stars brilliant   July 9, 2008
Zethre (UK)
I nearly didn't buy the book based on some of these reviews, but I'm very glad I did.

Some people have said that they found none of the characters likeable, but I found all the characters were very real, with the reasons for their actions understandable, if not always forgiveable. Only two of the characters are really unpleasant, and even then I found myself having a certain amount of pity for them, as they were so well described. I found myself liking the other characters very much.

I felt that Henry Schoonmaker is made out to be rather more of a cad in the blurb on the book than he really is, when really he's rather pitiable at first, and likeable later.

The whole thing is well written, and very enjoyable.

- despite the description of the book, it actually has a happy ending - although I am looking forward to reading Rumours, to see what happens to all the characters!

5 out of 5 stars Stunning!   July 6, 2008
CJ Taylor (UK)
I have been awaiting this book for a few months now and it has totally surpassed my expectations. Every chapter is wrote from the view of a different character and all are connected in secret scandalous ways making this a real page turner. This is different from the usual teen series around at the moment as it is set in 1899 and I love the way each chapter starts with a newspaper cutting or a letter relating to the story. The fashions of this era and differences in class are described in stunning detail and I adore the cover of the book, I am eagerly awaiting the second book in the series and was excited the other day to read there will be a third! An outstanding debut novel!!!

4 out of 5 stars Welcome to The Luxe...   July 1, 2008
Ms. Jenny Davies (UK)
I really enjoyed this book - yet another brilliant teen fiction series.

It's set in Manhattan, in 1899, and mostly revolves around a group of five teenagers - Elizabeth, Diana, Will, Henry and Penelope.

It's full of scandal, lies, betrayal and jealousy, and is instantly addictive.

It reminded me of Gossip Girl, if it were set in 1899.
