5 out of 5 stars Classic Sociology Text   May 20, 2008
Mrs. N. Gilroy (Cambridge)
As one of Pip Jones's old students I used this book as my bible. It is written in an easy to access way - no - jargon just as he used to teach the subject. His passion for the subject was inspiring and resulted in me being a addict to the subject. Years after graduating I still love this book and dip in and out it regularly. This book is a must buy for every Sociology student.

5 out of 5 stars Very easy to read   December 4, 2007

We have been assigned to read several books on my degree course and I found a lot of them very hard going. All needlessly academic and very daunting. Bit not this book,it is so easy to read, it tells you all you need to know and I would highly recommend it. If you are feeling overwhelmed by other social theory books then this is definitely the one for you!

5 out of 5 stars Remarkably lucid guide to social theory.   May 4, 2006

I've attempted several books on social theory but this one is the most accessible I've come across. The author,Pip Jones, covers a wide range of social theories and explains complex ideas in a remarkable lucid way.
This intellectually stimulating book is highly recommended not only to advanced sociology students but anyone who is interested in gaining an understanding of how society works.
