I only bought this because I'm doing A level ethics but I've thoroughly enjoyed many of the dfferent sections of this book. Its a great insite into the confusing world of ethical matters such as homosexuality, euthansia and abortion. Its very easy to read and if like me your sitting an A level in ethics, its a definite buy. Although it is a little expensive, its the only book you'll really need, as unlike other books it gives views from various ethicists and scholars.
The best text book for A level ethics I have read October 10, 2003 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
What a find! A suberb foundational text book for A level ethics. Covering all board requirements. R Bowie must be praised for his clarity of writing and presentation. Ideal for AS and A2 students alike.
An outstanding introduction to the subject of ethics. May 27, 2002 ramjudd@aol.com (London) 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
This book is an excellent introduction to ethics. It is well written with plenty of exercises to help the students 'chew over' the issues raised by the different theories. It is very readable and although able students will need to supplement this book with others, as a class textbook there is no better one on the market at present.
An unsophisticated but invaluable exam revision aid April 21, 2002 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
Yes this is a good book for AS/A2 level Ethics but this is not the best introduction to Ethics I have come across. It's main advantage is that it covers all the key areas for covered by most exam sylabuses in ethics and is an invaluable revision guide covering all the basics you need to know in an easily absorbed format. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a book in their AS year but it is likely that someone in their A2 would find a slightly more advanced book more rewarding. Nevertheless this is a good investment for someone looking for a first ethics book or a good revision guide.
very understandable and to the point. January 25, 2002 piglet_is_cute1984@hotmail.com (Leicester, England) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Robert Bowie has produced a book that has helped me through the first half of my A/S year in my Ethics course. he is very clear and understandable in waht he has to say and he is too the point. he provides plenty of relevent issues that are relevent to my course and to my exam. the book it's self i found very approachable and i would recommend for anybody taking A/S and A level theology or ethics. it also provides all the information needed for the A2 course and has prepared me with good understanding of what is too come form the course.
