The pictures in this book are designed to encourage children to talk about the book and predict what might happen next. The opening page shows a detailed scene, which introduces the main characters and vocabulary that appear in throughout the book. The book has essential style for early readers, simple straight forward sentences, large clear type, an easy to read font, repeated phases, lively humorous illustrations and a close match between pictures and words. It is part of a series of popular, traditional tales written in a simple way that young children can understand and read. `Goldilocks and the Three Bears' is a Read It Yourself Book; it is especially considered for children who are ready to take their first steps in reading.
Who's been reading MY book! February 22, 2005 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
Our son (14 months) loves this book. He is always pulling it off the bookshelf for it to be read to him and is even happy to flick through the pictures by himself. It's the classic Goldilocks story, however, I was disappointed in the updated style of illustration.
Excellent book for new reader February 4, 2002 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The retelling of this well known tale, in a simplified version, gives the new reader plenty of practice with commonly used words, while allowing them to read for themselves a 'real' story. An excellent confidence building tool!
What we think of Goldilocks and the Three Bears January 17, 2001 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I liked the bit where she tasted the daddy bear's porridge. It was too hot. I liked the funny faces she made when she tasted the porridge. I liked it when she slept in the beds; she fell into mummy bear's bed. Daddy Bear's bed was too hard and big. Baby Bear's bed was just right. When daddy bear saw her he got really cross. Goldilocks wasn't a very nice little girl because she went into the bears' house and ate their food and slept on their beds, and she broke the baby bear's chair. I liked the bit when she made the faces when she ate the porridge and I liked the bit when she fell in mummy bear's bed.

My son loves this book (he is just two) - I have read it so many times I know it off by heart. He is always asking for porridge these days!
