Quite good July 14, 2006 Pure Pianist (London, UK) 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
I found York Notes to be a great aid for my GCSE English Literature exam. The presentation is clear, it has notes on themes, language, characters etc as well as chapter-by-chapter commentaries. Personally, I preferred the Letts notes over this one, but that is probably due to personal preference and this is definitely worth buying.
Fabulous November 23, 2005 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
I found this book extremely useful for my son during his GCSE's, as it clearly explains each different part of the story, with graphical illustrations. Highly recommended.
Success Guaranteed May 25, 2003 14 out of 14 found this review helpful
I am a GCSE Student who used this excellent revision guide for my English Literature Exam, and it was an invaluable tool in guaranteeing a thorough understanding of the text and poise in the exam room. The Chapter Summaries ensure a clear and coherent understanding of the story is maintainted, and the book is further broken down into Character Descriptions and comments on the key themes to ensure nothing is missed out
Superb! April 5, 2003 15 out of 15 found this review helpful
I discovered this gem whilst searching for a revison aid for the excellent novel by Harper Lee, and when compared to the mediocre Letts Explore guide, the York Notes version outshined it in every way! Detailed Chapter Summaries save crucial time before the exam, and there are some excellent sections on how to improve your grade and the themes that are reiterated throughout the novel. This book certainly improved my grade as i recieved an "A" in the Mock Exam as a result of the superb notes in this book. The only downside is that there is an absence of a page for specific quotations but this encourages you to test what you have understood in the book and develop a personal opinion of your own which is crucial for examination success. Highly recommended!
