Daughter loves it, I don't. October 5, 2008 V. Carlin (London, England) She's the target audience, right? I'm a huge fan of Donaldson/Scheffler books, but this one isn't much fun to read aloud - for me! my daughter thinks it's great. She'd more or less memorised it in a couple of readings. I have already come to dread the repetition ('Come little monkey, come come come') and am frustrated by both the idiot butterfly and the ungrateful monkey. You can confidently go ahead and buy this book for your toddler to enjoy, but you may not have as good a time along with her.
Fantastic book. Great to read aloud August 27, 2008 A. Swankie (Scotland) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this for my son after we got the Gruffalo and this book didn't dissapoint. I remember the first time I read it to him and he laughed out loud all the way through and I ended up having to read it about 5 times in a row and by the end I was exhausted at laughing at my son laughing. I now have to read it every night at bedtime. Its a great book to read aloud and and will be sure to become one of your kids favourite books. A great buy.
EXCELLENT July 30, 2008 G. Adams (Herts) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
My daughter has loved this book from the day she got it at 18months. It is still a firm favourite and I never get tired of reading it. How she is talking she tells me what is coming before I turn the page and I awlays receive a big hug on the final page. I totaly recommend 5stars!
Brilliant July 30, 2008 Gordie (London) My 2 year old daughter loves all of these books - very imaginative stories - great illustrations - pages contain lots of detail she really enjoys.
Enjoyable and meaningful April 21, 2008 Hobs 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is a lovely book which my 2 year old daughter really enjoys especially filling in the 'thats a ....' on each page. The simple repetative text and colourful pictures also makes the book suitable for my 11 month old. I also think this story has a lovely idea that although people may not look like their parents they are still a family. A lovely lesson in diversity.
