Four people go to the park, and through their eyes we see four different stories about what took place there. There's the bossy woman, the sad man, the lonely boy and the young girl whose warmth touches them all. As the story moves from one voice to another, their perspectives are reflected in the shifting landscapes and seasons. As with so many of Anthony Browne's works, this is an intriguing, many layered, hugely entertaining book which can be read again and again, and which will appeal to adults and children alike. Voices in the Park revisits a previous book by Anthony Browne, A Walk in the Park, written 20 years ago, but now sadly out of print. (Age 4 to 8) --Philippa Reece

Sounded good but way over my 6-yr-old son's head, not helped by strange illustrations (apes in human clothing) and some inappropriate use of language for this age group. Concept possibly suited to older child. Didn't enjoy at all.

The same trip to the park is seen through the eyes of 4 different people. The words tell us a lot about how they think, but the pictures open their emotions to our eyes. With beautiful surreal elements and clever use of colour, the illustrations have details that change with the emotions of the story tellers and allowed me to discuss emotions with my children in colours and pictures. This was especially useful for my son who struggles to understand the emotions and feelings of those around him.
Adults will enjoy the sheer beauty of this book and it's artistic references and children can discuss the impact other peoples feelings have on us.
I have just finished this from the library and now am just about to order our own copy.

My children and I really enjoyed this book. Beautifully and imaginatively illustrated, it encouraged us to explore the impact we have on each other, just as the characters in the book influence one another. We poured over each page, finding something new and touching each time.
