not great October 5, 2008 Ms. L. Mcnally (Scotland) there is nothing advanced about this and it offers very little for advanced learners, i often found i was lookin up other books for the word and phrases i wanted as this book could not provide them. it has sub topics but the vocabulary in each one is quite sparse. for a better vocab book in french try Mot A Mot.
Brilliant Vocab Book June 20, 2008 A. Student (Bucks, UK) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Was very helpful for all the topics I covered, and I found the section in the back containing conclusions and other phrases to use in essays very helpful. However, I rated it 4 star because I feel some phrases and words were a bit obscure and couldn't possibly see why they are necessary. I'm not sure if there is a vocab specification for A Level and those words had to be included, but if not if it were up to me I'd remove a few. Especially seeing as some sections have multiple words for the same meaning. Overall a good vocab book.
Helpful January 4, 2004 Blake Ivinson 10 out of 25 found this review helpful
This book is ideal as an accompaniment for French AS. It breaks down each section into managable chunks. Still, I didn't learn any of it..
If you're studying French A-Level you need this book May 12, 2002 43 out of 43 found this review helpful
Since I started my French course I have been glued to this book- it is my Bible. It completely invaluable as it covers all the topics you need to be familiar with in a lot of useful detail. It also has a section on writing essays in general, with pages of both basic and more sophisticated words and phrases. It's a wise investment which is definitely worth a little over five pounds.
