Thumbs down! April 22, 2008 Samantha McPherson (UK) 6 out of 9 found this review helpful
This book is an alleged christian book because it twists the scriptures and goes against what the word of God says. In my opinion this is not christian at all, but written from someone who I identify with cult practices. How come so many churches use this book when it goes against so many christian values and scriptures?? Do the christians that read this book read the bible? Apparently not, or they might find issues with it that I did. Also why does it make you sign a covenant at the start of the book? Me and my friends do not recommend this reading if you are serious about your walk with God. However if you are serious about your walk with God, the Holy Spirit will direct you into all truth.
Microwave Christianity April 19, 2008 Matt Wilson (MANCHESTER UK) 4 out of 6 found this review helpful
The 'Purpose-Driven' franchise has been incredibly successful, in terms of shifting units. There has to be a reason it's done so well. Simple answer. It's a generic product. It's Bird's Eye Fish Fingers. It's Heinz Baked Beans. It's Chicken Tonight. The book jacket promises a lot and there are certainly a lot of excitable reviews of it, by all means give it as a gift to a new Christian but if you have any level of maturity you will be left frustrated.
Awesome March 30, 2008 C. Everett-Guy This is one of the best books I have read in a long time, Rick Warren just says it as it is and makes so much sense. Every day's read was inspirational and so encouraging a must for every christian.
A Template to Check Your Christian Activities Against January 22, 2008 Donald Mitchell (Boston) 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
In the process of praying, reading the Bible, attending services, witnessing, and following the commands of the Bible, it's easy to forget to check overall on how you are doing in pursuing activities that are good for Christians. I was given this book by my son as a Christmas present and began reading it immediately. I didn't follow the format as I was instructed, but read ahead and then reread sections later. I gained two benefits from the book that I didn't expect: 1. I became aware that I wasn't doing any small group Bible study and that such study and fellowship would be good for me. 2. I realized I hadn't tried any new ways to serve God in almost a year and a half. It's time for me to try some new things while continuing to do what I have been doing. Like all books about Christian living, you'll get out of it what your heart is open to receiving. Those who like to tie back everything they read to the source will find this book a little frustrating because you have to turn to the back to see the source of the Bible quotes. Those who like short lists telling them exactly what to do will also be a little frustrated because the advice mainly consists of subject areas (pleasure for God, being part of God's family, becoming more like Jesus, serving God, and pursuing a mission) to think about and pray over. Listen to the small, still voice of the Holy Spirit as you read this book. May you be blessed in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit!
Free yourself of your religious ball n chain December 17, 2007 A. J. West (North Yorks, England) 2 out of 5 found this review helpful
A very depressing, very funny, truly enlightening read. This book has taken away all the fear, dread and nonsense I have been fed all my life and made me see how utterly crazy this world is. At first I was thoroughly angry to think that the world is full of such tosh but now I feel so enlightened that I must give this book 5 stars. It has made me see the light and for that I am truly thankful!
