4 out of 5 stars great but too much of the same thing   May 24, 2008
another woman (Espanya)
Actually when i first opened it, i found it fascinating. The ideas behind it are great (even though it doesn't always work for everything) but soon it goes on and on, round and round the same thing. It's not a big book already, i think it should be even shorter and to the point and could tell a bit about the controversial issues that it takes to: STOP THINKING ABOUT EVERYTHING... Still, i think it's a great book!

5 out of 5 stars Do yourself a favor... buy this book today - and start living (Should be available on the NHS!)   October 5, 2007

Reading this book was for me an experience to cherish. It is simply the best self-help book that I have read in years. In fact I think that it would be hard to beat.

As a therapist and author myself I certainly understand just how negative life can become for people who do not understand that they are fully in control or their lives and their own neurology.

The most import aspect about 'Stop Thinking, Start Living' is that Richard Carlson delivers his important message in a very simple way that simply just reading it will change your life forever - and thats no over exaggeration.

There are some problems with the title such as a few typos and the repetition, however some people need to be told more than just once so this is not really such a bad thing.

I truly believe that if you suffer from depression, anxiety or negativity then this book is the hidden gem that you have been searching for. I only wish that they made it available on the NHS, there would certainly be a lot more smiley people around.

It really is a must read for sufferers of these crippling issues and their therapists could learn a lot from reading it too!

Richard Carlson really does explain in a common sense way something that is life altering. It seems so believable and this is down to the fact that it is. He explains what happens to our minds when we get stressed, depressed and negative. More importantly he gives us the solution that we need to get the lives that we deserve. It is some simple you will have wondered why you didn't this of it yourself!

Just a word of warning - The book is about 180 pages long, but it is one of those titles that makes you feel that you are taking steps towards your goal with each page that you read. You will find it hard to put down when you start reading!

Do yourself a favor... buy this book today - and start living.

Warmly,

Richard MacKenzie

5 out of 5 stars This book has information that will change your life!!   January 26, 2007

I was reccommended this book by a friend. Its a brilliant book, you will learn what Dr Carlson believes is the main reason for unhappiness and deppresion.

The fact that the events that happen in our lives are NOT the cause for our unhappiness but in actual fact its our own thinking! our own thoughts! He constantly keeps reminding us that the thoughts are not real! just a made up image and that we should just dismiss that thought in an istant. He does keep talking about this same thing throughout the book but its to keep reminding you so you condition it into your mind. I read the first 10 pages and started to apply some of this great stuff and it completely works! its hard at first but once you focus on your thinking you realise that it is YOU that causes the unhappiness! and you automaticly start to turn your focus on your (and I quote Dr Carlson) 'Healthy Functional' that being your happy and peaceful side.

I strongly reccommend this book to anyone - their is information in here which will beat the blues! and probably change your life!

5 out of 5 stars Excellent - everyone should read this   January 24, 2007

This book was one of my main tools during recovery from a very serious mental breakdown (and it still gives me very regular maintenance). It helped me to gain control of my thinking and to reclaim the contentment I had lost some years before. It takes a lot of practice to achieve the thought control described here but persevere because it works! Yes it is repetitive but the message is worth restating. I have recommended this book to many of my friends and every single one of them has recommended it to at least one of their own. If you are struggling to deal with serious issues, illness or trauma or are even anticipating it, give this a go - if you give it the time it deserves it will work. By this I mean that you need to read it several times and mark the important passages for yourself, so that you can go back and remind yourself of the valuable messages it contains.
