It is not a field giude!October 13, 2008 David Wray(Gillingham, Kent United Kingdom) This book is a descriptive work examining the evolution of Snowdonia and its environs (extending at times beyond Aberystwyth!). It is not a field guide and provides no itineries. It would have been better titled 'Geological Evolution of Snowdonia' or something similar. The diagrams have all pretty much been taken from established works by the British Geological Survey and others; and there are some useful photos. Bennett has done his usual good job of synthesizing the work of others making this work a useful book for those seeking to understand more about the region.

As an interested layperson who has struggled to follow geologists' explanations ,this was exactly the book I needed. Clear descriptions,vivid explanations, plenty of photographs and well-chosen diagrams. Things which have been a bit of a mystery to me will henceforth be much better understood.
