An excellent read June 26, 2008 Alison Mallaghan (France) I've never been to the USA, but I kinda feel that I might well agree with Sandi's astute and humerous observations. Thoroughly enjoyable and full of interesting facts, it is insightful and entertaining. I shall be re-reading it again and again.
one to make one smile February 5, 2005 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
I'd been interesting in reading a book by Toksvig, having been impressed by her television appearances, and I certainly was not disappointed! It's a pleasing tale to read, conveniently punctuated by the author's clever little nuggets of wit.
Gladys Reunited! July 11, 2003 Miss M A MacKay (Holmfirth, England) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
It takes a very brave woman to make a physical journey back to her childhood. Time has moved on and so has Sandi - but have all her former 'Gladys' schoolfriends? A wonderfully written, humourous at times and certainly a soul searching read. I raise my glass to you Sandi for your ability to express the sheer enjoyment of your perception of other people's lives - you certainly would get my vote!
If only all tour guides were as funny as Sandi Toksvig... July 4, 2003 Joanna Leapman 12 out of 13 found this review helpful
If Friends Reunited has made you think about tracking down people from your childhood, then beware - this journey to rekindle Sandi's teenage years in America will perhaps remind you of why you left your past well behind you! Gladys Reunited tells of Sandi's quest to meet up with members of her school drama club again and takes her all across America. The anecdotes are great and you'll no doubt end up boring everyone reading them aloud because Sandi is so funny, sharp, witty and talented that'll you want to share the joke with everyone. It's also a fantastic travelogue and explores parts of the US you would never ever think of going to unless you had to. Don't read it if you're American though - it's hilarious and really pokes fun at our friends on the other side of the Atlantic! That'll teach Bill Bryson to patronise us in Notes from a Small Island!
