The first I have read by this author but won't be the last! September 29, 2008 littleskippy (Leeds) I loved nearly everything about this book. There are some parts I can really identify with, especially the evil mother in law, hell bent on splitting up her marriage. I know exactly how that feels...I did find the baby obsession slightly grating at times though. Other than that overall a brilliant book which I would highly recommend. I have just bought all her previous books. More please Adele!
Bit disappointing September 24, 2008 Avid Book Devourer (UK) Having read many other books by Adele Parks I was looking forward to this one but came away a bit disappointed. I found the main character Elizabeth really irritating and completely implausible and the sequence of events unbelievable to say the least. Having said that, I did finish it and found it amusing in parts - just not up to her usual high standard.
Another fab summer read! August 3, 2008 T. Bradbery 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I've read all of Adele Parks books, and thoroughly enjoyed them all. This book has a different pace to the other books, but again, I couldn't put it down! I would definitely recommend this to anyone who fancies a good summer holiday read.
This book is pants August 2, 2008 K. Crooks (Yorkshire, England) 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
After reading all of Adele Parks other novels I looked forward to taking this on holiday - boy was I wrong. This is complete trash. Elizabeth is silly and needs a dam good shake. Throughout the story Elizabeth is criticised for her stereo typical views... ehh hmm? Evil mother in law, dashing American, moody Italian... yawn. Go and spend your holiday money on a nice cold beer and look at the sea. That would be money well spent.
Plenty of twists August 2, 2008 H (Milton Keynes) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I wouldn't say that this is my favourite book by Adele Parks, but I enjoyed it more than I did her last one (Young Wives' Tales). I had a little trouble with the character of Elizabeth. I did warm to her, but she was obsessed with having a baby, to the point of only seeing her husband, Roberto, as the means of making a baby. I did feel a lot of sympathy for Elizabeth, however, because she does have a difficult time in Italy, and Roberto does not really help. The characterisation of Elizabeth's mother-in-law is excellent. I'm glad my mother-in-law isn't like that! Then there's Chuck. His friendship with Elizabeth is developed in such a nice way. I was kept guessing about which man Elizabeth would end up with. There are some other clever twists too, which I won't spoil. I particularly enjoyed the description of various parts of Italy.
