Amazon.co.uk Review When Millie saves bestselling novelist Orla Hart's life and loses her boyfriend in the process, one wonders if the rest of the book can be as entertaining and eventful as this dramatic opening but for Millie Brady the fun has only just begun Millie decides that a man-free summer is just what she needs but Orla, who wants Millie to be the heroine of her next novel, is determined to find her the man of her dreams. As far as Millie is concerned, the only man worth thinking about is Hugh Emerson but for Hugh, whose wife tragically died in a horse-riding accident, "dating is not on the agenda". Millie's determination not to fall in love with the young widower forms the centrepiece of the novel but Jill Mansell also delves into the shenanigans of Millie's best friend Hester and her eventful love life; Orla and her cheating husband; Millie's man-eating mother; and the leather-clad, sex-mad Lucas Kemp who runs a kiss-a-gram service. Set against the backdrop of the tranquil Cornish countryside, the story is void of coldly beautiful, career-obsessed women; gorgeous men with flash cars and flashier wallets. Instead, Mansell has created a believable and diverting cast of characters, and even dares to portray sex as something other than mind-blowing: Since carrying her into the bedroom, Lucas had stripped himself naked, launched himself at her, had sex and then rolled over with a groan of contentment. In one hundred and eighty seconds flat. Oh, and he had told her she was great. Unbelievable. This is an addictive, warm and funny read bursting with clever one-liners and sparkling dialogue. Mixed with a healthy dose of realism, the will-they-or-won't-they element will have you gripped until the end. Reading Mansell is never an idle fling; her ever-growing collection of bestsellers, including Kiss and Good at Games, demands a life-long love affair. --Amy Gallagher

An enjoyable, easy read. May 2, 2008 Wendy Evans (Sheffield, UK) I finished this last night, although it has taken me a while because of lack of time I did enjoy this book. It is typically easy reading chick lit that follows a similar vein to many of her other books centering around one main character. I have read quite a few of her books now and I think I may be starting to find some of them a little 'samey' as I found this very similar in some ways to "Staying at Daisy's" although it wasn't based in a hotel as that was. The characters are very likeable, although somewhat 'dippy' they are your typical 'ordinary' people. She doesn't build much of a picture of the area it is set in though, which I would have liked as I've never been to Cornwall, although this opinion may not be shared by someone who knows the area as it is entirely possible I have missed it, but apart from references to the views, beach and surfing I didn't get a picture of the location at all from this. Jill's main characters, based on the books I've read so far, all seem to be rather 'dippy' females with a penchant for the ridiculous. They are all very likeable but many of them have similar traits which is what in my opinion makes them a little 'samey'. However, she does seem to instill in them all a very good sense of humour and Millie is no exception to that. Although things do go wrong for the characters they are generally all living in a nice and reasonably safe 'little world' which despite it's many twists and turns it all ultimately works out in the end. All in all I would say a predictable (well for a Jill Mansell fan anyway) but enjoyable and amusing novel that came together in the end, although at times you did feel like shaking the main characters and telling them to get on with it.

I absoulty love jills books and honestly people who give them any less than 3 stars i can just say to them READ MORE BOOKS. because this lady is amazing on how she captures you and how everyone can relate to her books in some way or another. Evenyone likes different stories and yes theres gona be one you dont like but i say read more of them and you'll b hooked honestly. Ok but disappointed September 25, 2007 Kirsty (South Yorkshire, England) Unlike the other reviewers, I was actually disappointed with this book. I usually really enjoy Jill's books and read them very quickly, this one however I really struggled to get through. I didn't particularly warm to the characters that much and found it all very predictable. However, the book was well written and a good book to read on holiday, just not as enjoyable as her other books such as 'Fast Friends' 'Solo' 'Kiss' 'Sheer Mischief' etc!
Best Jill mansell book ever July 5, 2006 Robert Burge (West Sussex) 3 out of 5 found this review helpful
Millies fling was the first Jill Mansell book I read, and I have now read them all. It's the book that got me hooked on Jill mansell. All her books have been great but this was the best. If you like these, also read Marian Keyes books & Adle Parkes -a must read of hers is 'Husbands' by Adle Parks thats the one that got me into her books too! You wont go wrong choosing any of Jill's books for a good flight/holiday read.
