OK if you are new to JR Ward and you are reading the reviews for this book, stop, search for Dark Lover by JR Ward and start reading the series from the beginning. If you start with this one, because it's not the best in the series it might put you off and you'd miss a really good series.
Now if you've read all the others and are about to get this one, it's very much worth a read for the devoted JR Ward fan. The secondary characters really make this book. Qhuinn, Blay and John Matthew are really coming along (and boy I hope JR Ward writes Blay's story), Xhex (dispite the rediculous name) is growing into a very interesting distraction for John Matthew, Revhenge is getting to be much less two dimensional, and Tohr better get some plot in the next book or that's just plain teasing!!
Everyone has their least favourite borther and Phury is mine. I'm glad his story is done with now because I really was getting fed up of listening to him whine in the previous books. At least now his main story is over with I'm hoping we can get on to some more interesting brothers. Don't get me wrong though, good things come out of Phury's contribution to BDB series. His role as primale marks a change in the BDB novels, where traditions are altered and a more symbiotic relationship with the Scribe Virgin can be acheived. I did enjoy this book and am still very much enamoured with the world that JR Ward has created.
We'll see what the next one in the series holds...

There is a lot about this book that I loved: the "new" generation of BDB are given a lead role and the book is the better for it. However the character of Phury seemed lost and ineffectual in all the plots and sub-plots. Yes, I still want to know what happens next, but I keep feeling that the roles of Phury and Comina were just fillers in a long complex story, with more twists and turns and no pay- back to the reader. Where was the cutting dialogue between brothers, where was the close relationship between them? This would have kept the story to one I could relate to. Suddenly we are surrounded by "failure" and so little good news.....
I will also admit that the twisting sub-plots are making me lose interest in the tales of the BDB. I cannot see any good reason to know about Rehvenge, or the angel Lassiter, or why being a sympath is so important to the story. As for introducing the son of EVIL......JRW please use a less contrived route. Your readers have already been introduced to V's secret sister; how many more 'new' characters will be needed to keep the pace of the earlier books.

while the romance in this book is not the best it is still a fantastic book.phury has always been complicated but u still love him and cant wait for the next book.

I liked Vischous' story when that one came out although I did think that the earlier one's had been better - but then V isn't my fave character, (that honour belongs to either Wrath, Rhage or Zsadist, :)). Phury, like V, was not a fave character to begin with as he was so hard up for Bella and well, I felt bad for Zsadist like Phury was poaching on his territory...that's a seperate subject lol. anyway, I really liked Cormia because of how different she was to Phury and the other heroines we have seen. True, it did get slightly annoying when she kept referring to him as 'the primale' as if she didn't see him as a person, just a position. But ultimately I enjoyed this book and thought it to be thoughtful, different and yet still employing Ward's great writing skills. Not as good as the earlier books but again I say that could be because I liked the characters better. Still worth a read as it is still very good. 4.5 stars.

much much better than lover unbound which i found very disappointing!
j.r. ward is back on track with this book introducing us to new characters and a new enemy for the brotherhood to deal with.
i highly recommend this book!
