A reason to love Chaos August 30, 2008 Stefan Asp I could write this review in many ways, but the essence of whatever I wanted to articulate can be summazised in these few words: if you love the wh40k universe, then READ THIS BOOK!!! there it is...well formulated as ever ;)
A must read 40k novel May 7, 2005 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
This is one of the best 40k novels I have read to date. The describtion of the siege battle is impressive and the fact that you also follow the Chaos armys view of the story, makes it very interesting indeed. I cannot remember having read other 40k novels giving such a good picture of land combat in the 40k universe, involving Titans, Tanks, Artellery and masses of infantry. In my oppinion the author is really deserves credit for this book and he knows his 40k universe.
A good action read December 7, 2004 Gisli Jokull Gislason (Iceland) 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
Although not a work of literary genius this book has its merits. It is set in the Warhammer 40.000 universe which is mostly a gaming universe although it has become a lot more. This book is special in that we see a conflict from both sides and you start to put your hopes on characters from opposing fractions. The strenght of this book is therefore you get to see the events from the standpoint of Chaos (Evil) as well as Imperials (Good). In it the Iron Warriors are my favorit and they are the bad guys.It tells a story of a fantastic siege and the action is fast paced, battles are epic and there is room for character development here and there. I enjoyed it and it should be read before Black Sun Dead Sky.
THE Siege February 2, 2004 8 out of 9 found this review helpful
It is refreshing to read a book in which the "mighty imperium" takes a beating. This book is all about a siege. Until the later stages of the story it is not very clear whether the Chaos Marines will break through the defenses or will be beaten back by the "traditional" last minute help( if that comes of course)... There is a nice variety of warfare including tank and Titan battles. The battles are always bloody but the good thing is that until the final clash none can be seen as decisive. An interesting point (also found in the novel "Dark Angel") is the imperial deceipt that will tip the scale...a nice touch overall.Concluding this is an open minded book by the standards of Warhammer novels that is enjoyble to read again and again. The only drawback is the lack of intrigue. If you are into intensive battles go for it. If on the other hand you prefer novels such as Xenos and Hereticus then this book might not be the best choice.
Terrible, derivative tripe July 22, 2003 7 out of 33 found this review helpful
I read Storm of Iron recently and must say that it was one of the most dreadful books I've ever read. The story is as straight as an arrow and never deviates from beginning to end, its like Mr. McNeill decided to write up a Warhammer 40,000 battle. A boring book with carboard characters and cliched writing. Avoid for the good of your health.
