Thunder & ashes September 15, 2008 C. WOOD (yorkshire.) Thunder & Ashes is a book that everyone who has read 'Plague' should read. It is fast paced and full of action. I agree that it is slightly less exciting than 'Plague', however, I liked it just as much if not more. All the characters are back and we are introduced to a whole town of new ones. This book os a very good read and i had finished it in next to no time. I would recommend this to anybody but I would mention to buy Plague first as some bits might be hard to grasp without having read it. Recht is an amazing writer and I am eagerly awaiting 'Surviors' which is the next in this talented guy's trilogy. I really can not wait. I think Recht should get more praise than what he is currently being given. 5* from me and 2 great reads to be proud of.
Great Book August 21, 2008 Derek Neilson (Scotland) This book deserves much more than 1 star, yes it was not as good as the first but it was still a great read although I have to agree the first book was like the movie and this felt like the opening of the TV Series with much of the storyline being concentrated on long episodes of a single scenario. I feel the book could have been longe but this is maybe because I couldnt put it down. Can't wait for the third book. Bottom line this is by far one of the better Zombie books not far off World War Z.
Happy! July 21, 2008 E. Bruce (Nr London, UK) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Hey i loved the first novel; its pace and story were excellent and this chapter does not dissapoint. OK some of the dislogue and pace suffers slightly but it's more Rechts personnal way with words than anything else, and i for one like it. By the way, if you liked this you'll love a book called Deathday, check it out now seeing as you're here, Its got Zombies in it!
Reading for insomniacs July 12, 2008 Johnny Knoxville (Dublin, Ireland) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This book is nowhere near as good as its predecessor. It reads like an episode of the original Star-Trek, our band of survivors come across a small town unscaved by the plague. They have one problem though...the local bandits, so like the A-Team would do in the same situation they sort the bandits out for the good guys. This is the main bulk of the novel and pretty boring stuff it is! The first novel in the series has a good pace to it and is exciting, this however is not. It feels like it's just filler to get another book out. In reviews of books of this type people always say "It's a good addition to anyones zombie collection"...well it's not. I hope the final book saves the story.
Not quite as good as the first July 9, 2008 John L. Mccuaig (Croydon, London) This book continues exactly where the first left of with the various groups on the journey to Omaha. The story moves on at a good pace but there are a few grammar errors and the book feels slightly rushed in places and it could possibly have done with a good edit. Still i must say i enjoyed reading this and meeting the new characters in the town of Abraham. Overall this is a fine zombie book and although it doesnt quite reach the quality of the first it would still be a good addition to anyones zombie collection.
