5 out of 5 stars Very, very good   August 19, 2008

You Can Be Thin: The Ultimate Programme to End Dieting... Forever
The approach taken by this book is highly effective. There is nothing else like it out there. Marisa Peer has produced what I can only describe as a work of art. This book is helping me to lose weight and gain health at a remarkable pace. The spin offs from the positive message in this book are also benefitting me in other areas of my life.
Seriously, this is the one you need.

5 out of 5 stars You can be thin   August 12, 2008

Having been off my feet for the past 6months I had put on about a stone and bought the book hoping it would help me lose the excess weight but it not only helped me it confirmed a lot of things I have been nagging my family about for the past 2/3 years like not eating any wheat products and also the fact that humans are not designed to digest milk and milk products. After reading the book I did further research on the internet and there is plenty of evidence to support this.
So thank you Marissa we are almost a wheat and dairy free house, still trying to convince my 15yr old daughter of the health benefits but not quite there yet!!!!! Oh and losing weight too

5 out of 5 stars It seems to be working   August 12, 2008

I bought this book with hypnosis CD after reading the many positive reviews on Amazon. I have to say that reading the book has put me off drinking cows milk for life. I felt queazy for a whole day after reading what Marisa had to say about it. I have also stopped eating bread as it bloats me. I eat wheat, milk and gluten free bread now and feel much better, plus soya milk if I have to have some.
I have listened to the CD every night for just over two weeks now and find I am forgetting about food for hours on end during the day. Sometimes I eat my last meal at 4pm, work in a bar all night then go straight to bed without the usual kebab I used to have. I used to think about food 24x7, but no more. I eat healthy food now (easy to have lots of salads because it's summer, I suppose), small meals fill me up, and I don't eat crisps or snacks out of boredom any more.
I've lost about 6lb in 2 weeks with no exercise. I'd rather it was slow and steady like this. This is a life-changing book. It took me years to put on the extra weight I'm carrying, so if it takes a while for it to come off then that's fine.
The 'moment on the lips, lifetime on the hips' warning is enforced by the CD and I find I can avoid snacks by visualising myself on holiday in October with a much slimmer and more comfortable body than I have now. I'd rather have that than eat snacks that give just moments of pleasure. See? It works.

5 out of 5 stars Review of Marisa Peer's book   August 10, 2008

It took me 2 days to read this amazing and life-changing book. It took me only a couple of hours to put Marisa's recommendations into practice! It is compelling, well written and very adaptable. The recommendations not only work, they are pure common sense and will stop people from dieting to try and lose weight permanently. The CD is easy to listen to and inculcates in your brain in a remarkable but easily understood way, how to lose weight, lose food addiction and be happy with your body and be healthy. Great work!

5 out of 5 stars Great book - be warned that you won't want to touch dairy products again   August 5, 2008

This is a great book and really helps motivate you to think correctly and positively about food. The motivational part of the book is fantastic and is worth the cover price alone.

However, it is not fair to say that it is a 'no diet' book - further into the book Marisa tries to put you off drinking milk, eating grains etc. If you read this book, you will probably feel sick every time you try to eat dairy products as Marisa tells you a lot of gory details about milk production. Personally, I thought it was inconsistent that she was 'against' dairy but not eggs and meat. The same arguments against dairy also apply to eggs and meat - e.g. they are swimming with bacteria and bad for digestion. I'm glad that the book has made me want less milk in my diet (I've already stopped having it in tea and coffee) but as a vegetarian I'm not sure I wanted to be put off dairy products for life - I know it isn't the healthiest food in the world, but it is an important part of my diet.

Another area I'm not convinced about is that grains such as flour and rice are bad for you - for example, rice is a major part of the diet for many of the healthiest people on earth such as the Japanese.

It is no reflection on the author, but one frustration with the book was the editing. The book is full of spelling and grammatical errors - I spotted easily 50 errors without trying. You have to read some sentences repeatedly to work out the meaning, as some grammar or words are missing.
