5 out of 5 stars simply outstanding.   July 20, 2008
MOD. (ireland.)
When Tig Hague describes the prison in the Russian capital and his treatment of the justice system you think it can't get any worse until his arrival at Zone 22. Tig Hague brings the reader on a journey that is outstanding to read and teaches us all how family is so important. This is the modern day "Great Escape" without the tunnels or the bike. Buy it and enjoy it " simply outstanding ".

5 out of 5 stars How does one cope?   June 2, 2008

An honest and scary true story of one mans life that turns upside down and spirals out of his control. One silly mistake leads to a challange of self control and survial. An interesting read that evokes sympathy and interests the reader through out. I hope Tig is drinking lemonade from these big lemons he was dealt a few years back.
A fantastic purchase!!

5 out of 5 stars Distressing, but strangely life-affirming   May 29, 2008

My boyfriend and I both read this book in 2 days. Both of us staying up late to read more. My heart goes out to Tig and his family and Lucy for the trauma they all went through. Tig is a nice guy, with a nice life and this book just shows how life can take a wrong turn. The book is well written and very descriptive, giving me vivid mental images of the horrors of living in Zone 22, and leaving me in tears (and occasional giggles) several times. He describes his fellow prisoners well, so that through his frank and friendly writing, you get a real sense of his experience. The fact that Tig was almost one one of the "lucky" prisoners because he was English, and so was able to bribe the odious guards - just leaves me cold. I don't know how he found the strength to get through it all, let alone revisit it by writing a book, although I hope it was cathartic for him. As another reviewer wrote - after reading Tig's book, you really start to understand how lucky you are. I'm so glad Tig and his family have had a happy ending and that life is good for them all. I also hope that other people learn from his experiences.

I really recommend this book - it's not my usual type of reading, but after seeing Tig and Lucy on the telly, I couldn't resist it.

I don't often read books , but after hearing Tig on Radio 5 late show I had to find out the whole story as it was on simular lines to " Midnight Express" and it lived up to all expectations It was the perfect holiday read.
