bedtime story night after night July 19, 2008 Bulbeck Family (Edinburgh) We bought this along with 'pirate things to make and do' and again this was a great purchase. My 6 year old son chose this for his bedtime story night after night after night. He enjoyed reciting the first page or two himself. He loved the repetition and also the typography. This book has spurred my son on into wanting to read and the different typography has been helpful in recognising the word phrases.

This is one of my and my 4 year old son's favourite books. It tells the fantastic story of Tom and a team of girl pirates who steal the front of Tom's house and use it to disguise their ship so they can steal treasure from Captain Patch and his grown up pirates. What sets this book apart is the wonderful illustrations and the text which not only has a gentle rhyme and repetition but flows across the page using different fonts and layouts to help tell the story. for instance when the pirates run away, so do the letters..... This book will be treasured by any boy or girl and it is particularly refreshing to find a story about girls who are not pink princessese. Buy this book - you will not be disappointed!
the night pirates December 30, 2007 L. Hillman (UK) 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
I love the illustrations in this book and the story seems to start off well but i thought that the middle of the story was lacking a little. Where was the big adventure? They said what it was but i feel they could have taken us into the adventure in just a little bit more detail. Im afraid to say i was a bit disapointed in the book by itself although the book along with the cd is much better.

An excellent book which has been read and read. The way the book is written is easy to read and understand. The pictures are also excellent. I would recommend this to boys and girls who have an interest in pirates. Happy reading.
A Wonderful Pirating Adventure September 13, 2007 Mrs. Eeva King (Finland) 12 out of 12 found this review helpful
I bought The Night Pirates because my 4-year-old son is fascinated by pirates and I wanted to get him a bed-time story about them - I'm happy to say this book didn't let down either one of us. The Night Pirates is unlike any other children's book I've come across, both story-wise and visually, too. The story is about Tom, a little boy who wakes up one night to discover that a group of GIRL pirates is stealing the front of his house. Tom joins them in order to steal treasure from Captain Patch and his band of lazy, scared grown-up pirates (the front of Tom's house is used to hide the approaching pirate ship from the adults). Deborah Allwright's illustrations are absolutely wonderful, both groups of pirates being especially memorable. The layout of the pages is a departure from the usual, with the text scattered all over the pages and different font-styles being used. I would highly recommend The Night Pirates to all children over the age of three. It's not a very long story, it wouldn't take more than a few minutes to read it without interruptions. However, in our household, it takes much longer, with my son repeating various bits of text and wanting to stop to look at and discuss the illustrations.
