5 out of 5 stars Beyond amazing   May 17, 2008
Charlotte Novitt (United Kingdom)
Definately one of the best books I've read in a long while.
Once I'd started reading I found it impossible to put back down until I reached the last page... and then I read it all over again.

5 out of 5 stars WOW!   May 16, 2008
J. Calvert (West Yorkshire, England)
I absolutley love the Twilight Series - they are my altime favourite books, seriously i don't know how i would live without them!!!
I think what's really good about this book is the fact that i can relate to Bella in as much as my parents are divorced, my mum is like my best friend, i'm a total klutz and i've never really dated as such. Similarites end when Edward comes into the picture. What i also love about his book is that Edward is just the perfect guy, he's had 100 years to perfect it, and you can not stop the internal swoon when you think about him for too long!!!lolz. I think i need to stop now before i get to carried away!!!

3 out of 5 stars Enjoyable but with some reservations   May 16, 2008
Sophie Masson (Armidale, New South Wales Australia)
Like most people I'd heard about the hype around this book and was curious, so finally succumbed and bought it. And well, I think it's an enjoyable read, well-written, mostly(though I think the beginning and end sections are better than the middle which is a bit overblown and saggy). Edward is a gorgeous hero, very much in the line of Heathcliff, Romeo, Mr Darcy, Mr Rochester, etc, and with that added frisson that he's an immortal, not human any longer, and that the defining characteristic of his kind--of vampires--is that they prey on humans. Bella is a good heroine, independent and smart and quite endearing, and the setting is done really well. I found the beginning when we're being introduced to Forks and the high school with the strange, beautiful loners, very gripping, and also the section at the end when Bella and Edward and his family come across the ''other sorts'' of vampires, who haven't forsworn human blood. That was genuinely scary, compelling and terrific.
Now for the reservations--the romance betweenm Bella and Edward is pretty hot but after a while it gets dragged out for so long that you just wish you didn't have to hear about it so much. Plus there is something definitely creepy about the whole vampire thing anyway--that lust for blood--the predatory thing, the devouring--it's revolting and disgusting as much as it's scary. At various times, I kept imagining Edward with his teeth covered in blood, like some kind of pretty Hannibal Lecter. I must say that puts me off completely. in a way if you think about it vampires are like a combination of psychopath and cannibal, not really my idea of a Romantic hero! Besides there's that whole thing about how the sexual aspect of their romance is likened to the predatory devouring thing, implying that sex is very dangerous and can kill you. I find that rather weird and repellent too.
Anyway I did enjoy the novel when I could keep my mind off all that sort of stuff(which wasn't always easy!)It's certainly a very impressive debut.

5 out of 5 stars No doubt the best book I have ever read-EVER!   May 15, 2008
BiteMe
My friend got this book for me as a birthday present. She hadn't read it, i think she just chose a random book off the shelf. So I must admit that I didn't think much of it at the time. Call me whatever you want but to me you had to be a certain "type" to read vamp books. Gothic, emo, depresed, different.... you know what i mean. In the world i used to live in 13 year old "good girly girls" read Meg Cabot and stuff like that.
Since I finaly pursuaded myself to read it I have not looked back once. I have completly learned not to judge a book by its cover (or topic) and I am a new person. It sounds cliche and kooky but this but has changed my life-no joke. And now I'm trying to convince others of this too!
When someone asks what my favourite books are and I tell them I get this look. You know what? I couldn't care less!

I LOVE A BOOK ABOUT A VAMPIRE ROMANCE!

Whatcha gonna do 'bout it?? So if you want to read the most amazing piece of fiction that i have ever read (and I have read ALOT of amazing books) then read this! The romance is through the roof and yet theres barely any kissing! Its more romantic than Jane Austen which is sayng something. And I'm not the only percson to feel this way; this book is MASSIVE in America for a good reason! Stephanie Meyer is so genuine and so realistic in her writing that it....there is no words to describe how it makes me feel! Its like taking drugs without taking drugs. Everything i hear remindes me of it. I'm completly obsessed!
And no, it is in no way gory, its the complete oposite.
So open your eyes to the beauty which is twilight, new moon and eclipse and read this book. I promise on my life that you will not regret it. Don't listen to the haters! They're just trying to be differnt. Trust me, in some cases its worth your time to follow the crowd!
Hope this helped! I know it wasnt too much about the actual plot but sometimes these reviews go too far and spoil the exitement.

READ THIS BOOK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

5 out of 5 stars Hungry for more!   May 13, 2008
C. Flatley (Merseyside, England)
I began this book without knowing a thing about it. When it started to dawn on me that it was essentially a teen romance, albeit an intriguing one, I was tempted to abandon it. But it was such a nice book to read and the central character was so likeable that I stuck with it. And by the end of Book 3, `Eclipse', I didn't want it to end. Stephenie Meyer doesn't feel the need to have her characters in danger every five minutes in order to get you to turn the page. You keep reading because Stephenie is brilliant at making ordinary daily activities interesting to read about. And you're more than happy to spend a few hours in the company of such likeable characters as they live out their lives. It's been a while since I've enjoyed a series as much as the Twilight Saga. Wonderful stuff!
