Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Silberschatz is Superb.   September 17, 2005
Tony Seaton (Midlands)
From some of the final-year, honours-level content of my degree, to presenting database concepts to GCSE and A-Level students, I have found the information, presentation and readability of Silberschatz invaluable.

This is a must-have reference text for any serious student, teacher, lecturer or practitioner in the field.

5 out of 5 stars Database System Concepts is a GREAT book!!!   April 28, 2003

Contrary to what is stated in the other review of this book I find it very useful. I suppose that guy is not interested in much more than how to write simple SQL in which case I can agree that there might be more extensive books...
However, if you are like me and want to know a little more than that this is a really good book on database system concepts. It explains how things work and why they work. The explanations of these concepts are supported by simple descrete mathematics notation. I really liked this book and I recommed this book to anyone who wants to know how databases work.

1 out of 5 stars Possibly the least accessible book ever   March 2, 2002

In spite of already having read several books on computer science generally, I was nonplussed by how the authors make such heavy weather of often relatively simple concepts. What is worse is the tendency to try to assist the reader with explanations couched as mathematical formulae; this merely bemuses many readers (I write this after consultation with several fellow students).

5 out of 5 stars An excellent source of reference for databases   November 27, 2001
grj@argonet.co.uk (Warwickshire)
If you ned information on the theory of databases, this is an essential reference. Covering topics, such as transactions, recovery procedures and indexing, these of which I have only required so far, it is a book I often find I cannot do without! Gareth Cumella (HND Computing Student)
