absolute treasure trove October 31, 2007 L. H. Clough (London, UK) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
The other reviews of this superb book are very thorough overwhelmingly positive and I will basically concur with them and wholeheartedly recommend this book. I have played the whole series and will probably get around to playing them second time. Apart for the great gameplay where the original mandate was to combine suspense, strategic use of limited ammo and healing items and a few puzzles (which have often been criticised but I always felt suited the game very well), what has always kept my interest is the rich history and tight continuity of the series. I don't know if outside the RPG genre this has ever been paralleled. It's just so entertaining playing the games as a series and discovering new elements to the plot. Nobody can deny how fun RE4 is, but purists like myself are sad to see the style of gameplay evolve from the original style. However, without spoiling RE4 for those who haven't played, it was so exciting to see how there is a bit more to link this with the other games that Leon's inclusion alone. And I know I'm not the only person who hopes that eventually Umbrella with take centre stage once again. Certainly the new Wii game should stir some interest in those who didn't play the original series. As the book came out a while ago, it spans RE1, 2, 3, Vewronica X and 0. It isn't a strategy guide, the function from my perspective is to bring the complex plotlines together to make them more manageable. After all, the series has been running for years and it's easy to forget certain details. So having played the entire series, I think I'll read the book to piece everything together and then play the games a second time to watch the whole story unfold. What a pity the films couldn't have stayed within the continuity, but I know this rarely happens from any translation to the big screen whether from books, comics or games.
A nostalgic read. May 12, 2007 D. Francis (Kent) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Having played and loved all the Resi games it was really nice to see a book dedicated to the series, reminding me of all the times i was scared witless playing resident evil, locked in my bedroom with the lights off. Its a brilliant companion to a superb gaming series, a must have for any Resi fan.

I love the Residen Evil games and i wanted something which i could just have a read at for enjoyment instead of playing the games, found this book, sounded great, bought it, and it is a beauty. This book is so well presented with absolutely tons of info on characters/enemies/storyline...just so much, like some other reviewer said, even if your not a huge fan, but you like the games, then this is still worth buying, its really that good.

Resident Evil Archives contains every piece of information ever known about Resident Evil: 0,1,2,3 and Code: Veronica. (DOES NOT include Resident Evil 4) Masterfully drawn pictures and in-depth descriptions including fictional, historic knowledge and actual scientific theory make this book a living dream for any fan of the series. Plus, the 350 pages make it definitely worth it's price tag. The book includes: INTRODUCTION: Blurbs about each of the 5 games, including the cover art. STORY: 5 mini-stories reflecting on the storyline and scenarios of each game CHARACTERS: In-depth descriptions, including pictures, on over 40 characters from the 5 games, including current position/occupation, past occupations/duties, and other important events in which they are involved. Also mentions their character and personality. CREATURES: Descriptions on between 50 and 60 different creatures/enemies/bosses from the 5 games. Includes how they attack, how dangerous they are, the purpose of their creation, any different mutations they have and how they were made. Also includes extremely detailed of each creature and any different forms they have. ITEMS: Displays every single item (hundreds) from the 5 games, including a picture and their Item Description. CONCEPT ART: Includes a vast amount of original sketches, ideas, costume designs and backgrounds for the 5 games. ALSO includes artwork from Resident Evil 1.5, and never before seen artwork for creatures that were never used in the games. KEYWORDS: Includes very detailed descriptions on things that play a very important role in the game, such as: S.T.A.R.S., UMBRELLA, T-VIRUS and RACCOON CITY DATABASE: Includes a timeline regarding RACCOON CITY, UMBRELLA and the ASHFORD FAMILY. Also has 2 large glossaries, which are both quite similar, but different in their own ways. They both include anything that remotely relates to the Resident Evil games. PLUS, it includes a chronological list of all Resident Evil games released up until the end of 2004. If you haven't worked it out already, my reason for giving this 5 stars is because of the in-depth descriptions, detailed pictures and overall content, and all these factors make it a must-have for anyone who even remotely likes Resident Evil, let alone die-hard fans. Apart from a couple of typos nothing can degrade this book to anything lower than 5 STARS!
