Amazon.co.uk Review Widely regarded as the greatest thing to come out of Apple Computer since the original Macintosh, the iMac is drawing thousands of new people into personal computing with its easy setup and friendly interface. While it's loaded with useful information, IMac for Dummies doesn't overwhelm new and tentative iMac users. The book assumes that readers know nothing about the iMac and teaches skills that will allow them to explore the computer's capabilities without assistance--all while spouting wry humour. The book begins its instruction by helping you pull the iMac out of its shipping box, hook up its cables and turn it on. The author briefly but thoroughly explains how to use the mouse, how to identify and use various interface elements, and what various computer components (such as disk drives) are for. Slightly more complicated features, such as cutting, pasting and printing, come next, followed by an explanation of the software that ships with the iMac and a good introduction to the Internet. Author David Pogue has a ton of experience writing about the Macintosh--he writes for MacWorld and is the author of the highly regarded Macs for Dummies. Pogue's light, welcoming style is perfect for newcomers. --David Wall

Excellent for iMacs sold up to early 2000 December 9, 2000 red.ryder@btinternet.com (NW London) 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
Welcome humour, brushes away fear and uncertainty for first-time iMac users. However, this does sometimes irritatingly get in the way of the important task of showing what is what! Be aware that this edition is absolutely no use for those wishing to get to grips with the current version of Appleworks, version 6. Great for iMacs running earlier versions and for iMacs sold up to early 2000. This is a must for first-time iMac users, but it must soon be revised if it is to retain its usefulness.
if only it came in the box with every imac June 11, 2000 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
this book is fabulous! i had already read a couple of books on macintosh computers and so wasn't even a complete idiot when i read this one. but i still learned ALOT and laughed out loud too. i cannot recommend this book enough! most computer books mention various things the computer can do but too often fail to give examples of why exactly you would want to do that and then always seem to be missing a step or two. whereas i was already feeling confident enough in what i was reading to zap my pram and rebuild my desktop the first day! get this book and as an extra bonus you too can be a hit at cocktail parties with his geek tips for witty responses.
For Dummies-Huh! May 20, 2000 The i-mac for dummies not only tells beginners all about the i-mac and it's software- it also gives advanced (intermedate) users lots of advice and information. Well done!
Thank you, thank you, thank you! August 15, 1999 My daughter bought me this book with my iMac & told me that if I read it I woud have no questions about my iMac. She was correct. Now when my grandchildren come to visit, I CAN SHOW THEM things about computers. A Hundred stars! Harriette gramha@aol.com
A work and a half!!!! August 15, 1999 I bought this book for my 71 year old Mother for whom we just bought an iMac. It was my first encounter with David Pogue. I sort of ho-hummed as I picked the book up with a highlighter in one hand. I didn't put it down until I finished it. It not only helped me with my own G-3, but you should se my Mom!It is funny and easy to follow & I promise you will search out all of Mr. Pogue's other works. Enjoy!! Siralewker@aol.com
