This book is ideal for revision at A level, although make sure you actually read The Handmaids Tale. I found it very useful, and it made interesting points.

A religious state reacts to its falling birthrate by turning on its female citizens. The Government forces its population to revert to an Old Testament culture, thus the handmaid who is expected to bear children for childless ruling class.

2 out of 5 stars A Book Club Disappointment   March 26, 2006

This title was one of the selected books in our book club and I was really looking forward to reading it! However, after a strong start the writer appeared to not only lose direction but managed to lose most of our book club too.
Sorry to say - I can't recommend this book.
