Great preparation for your premature arrival February 15, 2008 Steven Brain (England) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I believe that your opinion of this book is going to depend upon your own personal circumstance. For me, it was several days after the surprise early birth of our daughter that I had time to go online and look for a book and then several more days before it arrived. Having spent most of our waking time in neonatal intensive care for two weeks, we'd pretty much learnt about 75% of the content of the book. It wasn't all that useful for us. If however, you've had some advance warning that you are going to have a premature baby, I think this book is one you should buy immediately and start reading now. You'll then step into the alien environment that is neonatal intensive care pretty well prepared and far more informed than we were.

We were lent this book by the Special Care Baby Unit, when our daughter was born at 27 weeks weighing 730gms. It is written in a clear & concise fashion, & provides explinations of all the medical terminology & equipment being used. We found it a great help to have this information 'on-hand' that we could read & re-read. Although our daughter was extremely ill, it allowed us to understand better all that she was going through, and how we could take part in her care. It is an invaluable book

We were lent this book by the Special Care Baby Unit when our son was born at 27 weeks. As first time parents suffering from shock at the early arrival of our precious son, this book answered all our questions. It helped us realise that many parents go through the same agonies and worries, and go on to bring their babies home eventually-however long the wait. We brought our son home last week after he'd spent two months in hospital....

Having a premature baby is scarey. There's so much going on, and as in our case, so little time! This book is a real help. It answers so many questions and gives you so much information. All the topics are covered in an open, frank and easy-to-understand way. Everything is in plain English as well, which helps. We can't recommend it highly enough. As far as we're concerned, it should be compulsory reading for all parents of a prem baby! By the way, our baby was born at 30 weeks, and is now doing really well, so don't worry if you're in the same situation. It'll be OK, trust me!!!

Having a premature baby is very hard - most of your friends and family will be unable to offer any help or advice - this book is your best friend! My daughter was born at 31 weeks and I was lent a copy of by the staff of the neonatal unit. It was so informative and accessible that I bought a copy for myself. It takes you through all the jargon and potential situations you could face in a positive and easy to understand way.
