DismayedNovember 18, 2004 Ms. A. M. Bracher(London) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I was absolutely hooked on the Kay Scarpetta novels to begin with. Riveted by the forensics, characterisation and fast paced storylines I couldn't put them down and waited eagerly for the next release. Sadly over recent years I have watched the qualities I used to admire deteriorate, forensics taking a back-seat and storlines being dragged out over more than one publication. I am sorry to say that 'Blow Fly' was pretty much what I have come to expect - weak. I hesitated in buying it and am sorry to report that I am in no hurry to rush out and buy it's sequel. Patricia Cornwell shone out brightly in her genre but sadly seems to have resigned herself to mediocrity.

Do you ever finish a book and have the feeling that you have either missed something important or perhaps it wasn't worth reading in the first place? That is exactly how I felt after finishing Blow Fly. I have read all the Scarpetta novels and although the early ones are definitely the best I have still always enjoyed them and looked forward to the next one. Sadly I found Blow Fly a great disappointment. The same tired characters return-not to give too much away the return of one in particular stretches the boundaries of belief to the limit. There doesn't seem to be much explanation as to how the case is solved and the ending is extremely flat, but as one of the main villains unbeleivably manages to escape a top security prison we can be certain there will be another Scarpetta in the pipeline. After this poor offering I for one will be giving it a miss.
