There are many memoirs written by English speaking volunteers who went to Spain, many like this one were written many years after the individuals return from the war; this memoir stands out above many written from memory alone because it was based heavily on the authors diaries he kept whilst in Spain. There are extensive quotes from these diaries and Thomas also intertwines the story with his return to Spain (we other veterans) in 1981. A very moving and detailed account from a 'worms eye view' of the International Brigades.
