Some additional comments June 23, 2001 drewt@michthom.demon.co.uk (London, UK) 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
Having now translated much of the book, I can offer some additional comments on the book. Book 2 does pump the pace up a bit, but some chapters are somewhat harder than others and some are somewhat less interesting than others (the Cornelians spend half of the book at the inn!).This book does introduce some grammar that is quite a bit harder, but it's not too difficult. I'd only actually give this book 3 1/2 stars; it's a perfectly pleasant follow on and is strangely addictive, but it just doesn't _feel_ right. :-|
This book moves on from easy latin to actual Latin June 21, 2001 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
IN the first three Ecce Romani books the emphasis was on learning the vocabulary, grammar and customs through latin written for that purpose. IN ecce romani book four it still has the same emphasis but Roman writers are used. THis is very interesting for you as a reader. The layout and grammar notes are very good also.
A good book, but get a good teacher and book 1 too June 21, 2001 drewt@michthom.demon.co.uk (London, UK) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
This book is as equally helpful and interesting as the first book in the fascinating Ecce Romani series. It introduces even more vocabulary and grammar to the Latin reader, and still has stories about the Cornelii family. Admittedly, there aren't as many and they aren't as interesting, but the book's still OK. You still need Ecce Romani book 1, since book 2 just picks up where it left off. I can't wait 'til I get book 3 now :-)

A useful reference and teacher for the basics of Latin April 11, 2001 11 out of 12 found this review helpful
I found this to be a very useful book for the first year I was learning Latin. It covers the basics of Latin with a reasonable amount of detail. I would recommend getting a good Latin teacher to go with the book, since it doesn't cover everything. But it's good if you just want to see what the language is like.
