Concise and effective March 9, 2008 impsomewhat (Derby, UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The workbook and the solutions together are no thicker than a sunday magazine, and in addition to being amusing, they throw a valuable visual element into the learning process. Backed by exercises that become progressively harder, giving the all important repetition to reinforce the grammar point. There are alot of them for such a thin book; this is truly value for money. Sharpen your pencil and get practising!
Great, and does not require other books to use! August 12, 2007 C. A. Haworth (France) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Excellent book to learn french, i've got GCSE level french and have been living in france for 3 months and this book is excellent. The best thing is that you can pick it up anytime and work on the excersies without needing a dictionary or verb book, it has all the definitions in the back and comprehensive verb tables in the back with the most common verbs. Easy to use and focuses on the useful parts of the french language.
Excellent Choice for tutors and students alike May 24, 2007 Carly Lyons (Yorkshire) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I used this book to complement my course at University and found it a very interesting resource to use. The cartoons offer the student a chance to see the grammar concepts in action as well as being extremely humourous. As I have studied French for a number of years it is good to use a resource other than Shaums Outlines. It is also quite a good book for those unfamiliar with the laguage to get a grasp of the sometimes difficult grammar points.
Excellent and often amusing grammar book February 17, 2006 Cazzandra (Guildford UK) 18 out of 18 found this review helpful
I like this book, along with The Oxford French Vocaulary Builder (also in cartoons) - this got me back into French grammar and improved my writing in a week. Each chapter covers a different topic using cartoons and stories. Although it is clearly designed with older children in mind it doesn't grate on adults. I was amused by some of the stories. The exercises are excellent but they do require writing so some aren't particularly easy to do on the train. However, there are answers and there are plenty of exercises, often broken up into sections. There is a verb table and excellent vocabulary at the back so you don't need a dictionary - a plus for those like me wanting to use train journeys to get the work done. I recommend it. I bought larger and more substantial grammar books too but this one fits into my briefcase and it's fun; it's also useful for quickly checking on something I need reassurance about.
French for the terrified June 17, 2003 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
This is an excellent resource for anyone trying to get to grips with the intricaciesof the French language. It's entertaining by means of the cartoons, and very useful as a quick refresher if you need to clarify a point of grammar
